It was interesting to learn about his life throughout this book. I did not really understand particle spin concept. It was cool to see how much has changed in just twenty five years, I would love to see an update on the ideas presented in this book. Steven Hawking is one of the smartest people to ever live, let alone a physicist. It was a rather inspiring life story too because his parents were educated but not rich, he went to college and despite his disease he developed, he still went on to be an excellent physicist and be internationally recognized as a genius.
José Saramago does not spare any details in his speculative fiction novel, which explores a deeper and harsher truth of humanity that we often choose to ignore and conceal because of its undesirable qualities. It is a fascinating, frightening, and satisfying experience that wakes us up from our illusion of superiority as humans, bringing us back to the reality of our existence as animals, and exposes all the flaws and beauty of human nature, by means of a dystopia. In works of speculative fiction, the subject of human psychology, an intriguing topic for me and one that I have recently come to greatly enjoy analyzing in literature, is often found. The way speculative fiction “tells a story that is pleasing and opens disturbing questions that the reader may or may n... ... middle of paper ... ...dness, it has become apparent to me that my preferences in reading lie in speculative fiction. By reading books of this genre, many different perspectives of human nature are exposed to me, and I am left to analyze them as I wish, taking in meaning about the reality that I exist in.
Hubble figured out how to find this constant even though his first try was way different than what we accept today. Finding a correction to a hypothesis sometimes leads scientists to disproving other scientists. Sometimes science is just fine and doesn’t need to be disproven. In class this semester, Professor Suntzeff has mentioned to the class the Einstein was not a fat of a select few scientists and spent a great deal of his time trying to ruin the careers and lives of his fellow scientists. When you do science, you shouldn’t be doing it to spite other people or show other people that you are better than them and can disprove al... ... middle of paper ... ...s misuse of science.
These writers are science fiction, but since they do not always deal with the values and ideas brought forth by the "traditional" science fiction writers, the critic will pass it off as being cyberpunk. While the label cyberpunk will take these works, the label itself grows and changes with every work that is added, making cyberpunk a broader, more open category and harder to define. Cyberpunk does however hold on to its original values that include what can be considered a human factor to set itself apart from "traditional" science fiction. Works Cited Gibson, William. Swift himself was not opposed to all scientific endeavors, but Gulliver’s Travels provided a platform for him to explore the potential negative effects/affects of the “new science,” engaging in the exaggeration and absurdity that are essential to satire. Although Swift’s characterization of the Laputan scientists is distorted, it does successfully call into question the ultimate goal of science. Should scientific research be pursued because society has achieved the technology to perform them? My opinion is that Swift, through Gulliver’s Travels, argued that it should not automatically and necessarily be pursued. Induction is at the foundation of science, but the awareness come with a paradox because now laws and theories are questioned. Induction uses the individual facts. The imagination of a scientist allows the discovery of laws and theories. There is no single method to use to reach conclusions. The teaching of science now works against creative science which makes science dry and uninteresting to students.
To be quite honest, I personally do not and will not voluntarily read any science related, science fiction, or just science textbooks at all. But because it was required to choose a book and turn in a paper with a PowerPoint presentation, I decided to pick a book that I am somewhat interested in and thought would be easy to write a paper about. And since emotions are something every living creature has inside of them (well maybe a majority of them) I figured Joseph LeDoux’s book would give me an insight on grasping a better understanding the emotions and their role inside our body. And it actually did give me some knowledge about this topic. This book was not only about the emotions and the outcomes of the researches LeDoux performed, but it was also about the evolution, the thought, and the memory of the brain and how it all works inside humans and animals.
Something I can tell you, is that I could not notice that it was a translation, as the language used in the book was extremely good. Jules Verne was a French author who was born in 1828 and died in 1905. He is considered to be one of the world’s greatest book writers ever, after having written many famous novels. Jules has also written plays, that are unfortunately have not become as popular as his many books. The genres of his novels are many; teenager books, popular books and scientific ones.
I am currently at Jackson State University majoring in physics and minoring in mathematics, which helps to compliment my overall performance in physics. Because of my department’s small size, I have had the pleasure of developing solid relationships with the chair, program manager, and many professors within the department. These pivotal relationships have driven me to heights that, prior to starting at JSU in August of 2016, I could have never imagined for myself. First off, I never imagined that I would attain junior status after just three
That being said, they have the know-how and credentials to write this book. Synesthesia – the topic these doctors discuss - is not a well-known or well-studied subject, so these doctors are two of the few pioneers in the resurgence of this topic. The idea of synesthesia has been around since Greek philosophers pondered the idea of it, but it was not until the 1800’s that it became a specified scientific field of study. Between the 1930’s and 1980’s synesthesia was thrown on the backburner as a new age of behaviorism became prevalent in the field of psychology. However, synesthesia made a comeback during the ‘90’s and has continued to become more well-known among the general publi... ... middle of paper ... ...cked up the book I had to tell someone some little fact that I had learned that day because it is such a fascinating subject to think about.
