I will like to take a deeper look into the food and culture in the southern part of Africa. I will be discussing things like the tradition and religion, slaves introducing America to soul foods, and the meals they consume during the day. I chose to take a deeper look into Africa because I have an African decent because I am African American. I wanted to see what has changed over the years and how the foods that they introduced to the United States during slavery has also changed.

Muslims celebrate Ramadan which is a month-long holiday. “During Ramadan, Muslims will fast (avoid eating and drinking) from sunrise to sunset and practice self-control.” After they are done fasting for the day, they will eat dinner which would include dates, rice, and a variety of spiced dishes. On the other hand, Hindus celebrate Festival of Lights. They will eat a small portion of chicken, lamb, or fish with lentils or beans. Their holiday dishes will contain about fifteen different spices and they will serve bread as well. (Food in Every Country) The food that African people has brought to the United States is soul food. Soul food was brought to the United States by the African slaves. It mainly have a bigger impact on the southern part of the United States but it is eaten all over the United States because some southerners would move from the South and take soul food mentality with them. It was accepted because the slaves had to cook for their slave owners and that is all they knew how to prepare. The way they prepare the food may be different. In the United States, we have variety of ways to prepare our meats instead of only grilling and stewing them. IN the United States, we can fry, grill, boil, or bake our meats. In the United States, we mostly eat soul food for major holidays or Sunday dinners instead of eating at as big dinner every night like they do in Africa.
Once soul food became Americanized, it has become one of the largest eaten food in America. African-Americans have grown from only preparing for the families that owned them to preparing soul food for a whole town. Most African Americans, now how soul food businesses. But back in the day during slavery time, a lot of African American women were street vendors and they will sell their foods. Some sold enough goods and saved and bought themselves freedom.
