Kathryn Klempel Gay Rights The controversy over a homosexual couples right to marry consistently remains one of the most argued topics in modern- social, and political arenas. Personal opinions and biases often disguise the facts and observations that have already been laid in front of us by scientific and experimental research. One of the main reasons same sex marriage is such a heated argument is that of religious belief. Religious belief has been the main reason why same sex marriage is illegal in 33 of the 50 states here in America. “ As of January, 06, 2014, gay marriage has been legalized in 17 U.S states including, CA,CT,DE,HI,IS,MA,MO,ME,MN,NH,NJ,NM,NY,RI,VT, and WA.( http://gaymarriage.procon.org/) Same sex couples not receiving the right to marry is relieving them of their fundamental civil rights, as well as going against the constitution. Citizens who oppose to same sex marriage often state from the bible that man was made to be wed with a woman, but from a biblical side of the argument same sex actions was around during the time that the bible was written. Throughout the bible it talks a lot about how homosexua... ... middle of paper ... ... are we to tell them that they cannot give a child a second chance, family, love, most of all who are we to deny a child that second chance at life, happiness, and family. Gay marriage should be legalized for many reasons. Put aside all of the discrimination and religion, everyone is equal regardless of sexuality, there for gay marriage should be just as much of a right given to homosexuals as it is for heterosexuals. The government is breaking the law and defying the constitution by not allowing gays to marry due to religious affairs. With divorce rates lower and adoption rates higher there is absolutely no direct threat to the peace of this country. Due to hard facts throwing any religious argument out the door and information regarding the government’s obvious constitutional defiance homosexuals should be free to have the same rights as any other U.S citizen.
