The 3D printer is quickly beginning to revolutionise the way people can become their own engineer. 3D printing is a quick and convenient way to create prototypes and models, as well as building replacement parts and new creations out of ABS plastic. The UP Plus 2, made by 3D Printing Systems, is the new and improved version of the previous model, the UP Plus. Made in 2013, it was to be completely redesigned and be made faster, more accurate and easier to use for the consumer in comparison to the original. The 3D printer is an example of a combination of mechanical and electrical engineering, which are my disciplines of interest.
I have used a 3D printer quite a lot, and I find that it is so useful for making little things that you can’t go out and buy. I have worked on modelling projects for school and designed custom-made things for around the house. This could be the future – creating objects and having parts at your disposal in your home or office. Models can be drawn up with most 3D modelling software, and some programs, such as Google SketchUp are free and easy to use. This makes the Up Plus 2 easy for the consumer to use and makes modelling and designing more convenient with accurate results.
Role of a typical engineer
An engineer is someone who creates and designs things to make either a more sustainable, practical alternative for something already existing, or to create something completely new to meet a need. An engineer takes problem and dreams up, draws up and builds a solution. Engineers have shaped our modern lifestyles and are, essentially, changing the world.

... we already have. There are no limits when it comes to what can be created. Even large-scale models can be broken down into smaller pieces and stuck together. One example being a metre-tall model of the Eiffel Tower made solely out of parts printed with the UP Plus 2.
Potentially, this could be the beginning of changing the world when it comes to that little light bulb that pops in your head. All around the world there is are children without clean water. What if someone came up with a revolutionary idea and alternate way to filter water? With a 3D printer they could come up with a design and if it was small enough for a only few pieces each item, the printer could be used it print off numerous pieces all at once and use the new creation to give these children clean water. Imagine the possibilities of the printer and how they could change the way people live.

Technological advances are growing at a rapid pace. When Christmas began, homemade treasures were an ideal gift option. Now, homemade treasures have diminished significantly. In ten years, technology will transform our gift buying experience. By then, we will be in the age of 3D printing. 3D printers will be the new normal and it will make it possible to simply give someone a code and they can print their gift in the privacy of their own homes.
An aerospace engineer is a planer and builder of things such as planes, missiles, helicopters, weapons, and many things involving aerodynamics. Aerospace engineers are very important in today’s time, because they are key in creating and innovating new flying machines. They have been important in keeping todays transport and trade systems alive and thriving (“Aerospace Engineers Aerospace”). Aerospace engineers also test many different types of aircraft over and over again to make sure they are safe for the public. In addition to having many different task they have to accomplish, aerospace engineers also have many duties they must cover.
The field of bioprinting, using 3D printing technology for producing live cells with extreme accuracy, could be the answer to many of the problems we as humans face in the medical field. It could be the end to organ waiting lists and an alternative for organ transplants. In 3D printing technology lies the potential to replace the testing of new drugs on animals. However, the idea of applying 3 dimensional printing to the health industry is still quite new and yet to have a major impact. Manufacturing working 3D organs remains an enormous challenge, but in theory could solve major issues present today.

There are various types of engineering that make the world the way it is. The engineering field is a huge necessity to the world. The field provides a sense of infrastructure and stability to anywhere and everywhere, and without engineers, the world would pretty much fall apart. Engineers are valuable assets to any company because they think analytically. Engineers may advance to become technical specialists or to supervise a staff or team of engineers and technicians. Some eventually become engineering managers or enter other managerial or sales jobs.
Electrical Engineers research, develop, design, and test electronic components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, medical, military, and scientific applications (Cosgrove 749). They are concerned with devices that use small amounts of electricity that make up electronic components such as integrated circuits and microprocessors. By applying principles and techniques of electronic engineering they design, develop, and manufacture products such as computers, telephones, radios, and stereo systems (EGOE, 121). Electrical engineers touch everyone lives through the things they have designed or created. Electrical engineers have invented the lights in your house, the television, the stereo, the telephone, computers, and even your doctor’s blood pressure gauge (Stine 300).
Every day people read newspapers, magazines, books, comics, etc. and a vast majority of them never stop to think of how these objects are designed and made.
One career in the technological industry is a computer engineer. A computer engineer is a person who designs hardware or software for computers. Computer engineers do research to determine what people want and need to make their lives easier. Computer engineers sometimes work on a team to think of new ideas and concepts. Engineers generally should like activities of a technical nature, problem solving, and math. An engineer should probably like working with numbers and thinking logically.
An electrical engineer is someone who designs and develops new electrical equipment, solves problems and tests equipment. They work with all kinds of electronic devices, from the smallest pocket devices to large supercomputers.
I want you to think back to what might be the greatest invention ever. Dependant upon how well you know your history you could possibly say the wheel, the car, the airplane, the television, the autonomous robot. All of these are great ideas that have different eras in history, but they all have something in common, these creations were all invented by engineers. Do not get the misconception that engineers have been around since the dawn of time but the concept of engineering itself has. Those great revolutionaries all had ideas and solved problems which are still qualities that engineers of this day and age use. Webster defines engineering as, “the work of designing and creating large structures or new products or systems by using scientific methods.” Those people created new products so they would today be considered engineers, but they are slightly different. What makes them different is the field that they would be considered a part of. The broadest one of the oldest forms is mechanical engineering, which is my future profession.
In the most basic sense, engineering means “making things happen.” It is the practical application of science and math, the two subjects I am most passionate about, to solve everyday problems. It opens up a world of opportunity to create innovative technology that influences many aspects of people’s lives, this giving an individual the power to make a difference. While I am deeply interested in the subjects that are the foundation of engineering, in addition I have many other personal reasons for pursuing civil engineering in specific. I am motivated by my desire to fulfill my lifelong goal of creating purposeful infrastructure, to make all of my family proud, and to prove that not all engineers
