During the 1900’s the Progressive Era was a point in time of political, economic, and social reform for the United States in the. It was a time when the citizens of America looked towards their government as the driving force for change in our country. Though the methods of these presidents were very different, President’s Theodore Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson will always be remembered as the progressive presidents who fought for change. Theodore Roosevelt Roosevelt, who became president after William McKinley was assassinated, was a devoted member of the Republican Party. Despite being the youngest president ever to hold the office, he had substantial political experience. Roosevelt’s political experiences range from being governor of New York, New York City Police Commissioner, a member of the New York State Assembly, and Assistant Secretary of the Navy. Roosevelt fit right in to the mold of a progressive president due to the similarities of their beliefs.
