“Obstacles don’t have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don’t turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it.”(Michael Jordan). Every once in awhile, people are faced with hardships, it’s just a matter of life. However, some of these people may not know how to deal with these obstacles that they are facing. Although the individuals in the selection faced a variety of different hardships, they all overcame these obsatcles by perservering and not giving up. In the launch text titled “Against the Odds” by Pearson, U.S Airway pilot Chelsey “Sully” Sullenberger III is faced with a life threatening situation where the plane engines are disabled and Sully only has two options that won’t work. Sully coped with the obstacle by thinking quickly and landing the plane in the Hudson River. In order to overcome the obstacle of moving to a new place, he decides to get some hobbies, like learning english and trumpet at school. According to the text it states, “Mr. Lema was sitting at his desk correcting papers...I walked up to him and asked if he could help me with the new words. ‘Gladly,’ he said….He then picked up the trumpet and blew in it….’How would you like to learn how to play it?’....That day I could hardly wait to tell Papa and Mama the great news.”(page 474, paragraphs 29-32). Many people face challenges and difficulties in their lives, but do they give up or persevere through them? The Sudanese war was an immense challenge for many people. Most of all, kids and teenagers who faced many obstacles along their journey, but they persevered to survive the war. This idea is evident in the books Lost Boy, Lost Girl by John Dau and Martha Arual Akech and A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park because the characters John, Martha, and Salva persevere through the hardships to survive.

In all parts of life there are periods of adversity that we must face, the real challenge however, is what and how we gain from conquering those trials. There have been many times that I have been faced with adversity, it has happened in all aspects of my life at one time or another. Whether it is dealing with the ups and downs of hockey or balancing the pressure that comes with an elite hockey schedule and high school, there are always obstacles. Some of these challenges can bring about positive effects that influence the path of one’s life. In one such experience of mine, the amount of adversity was not near as great as the positive out come that came from my experience.

Many people can overcome the adversities they are faced with, while others may struggle and need help overcoming their situation. Never the less if a person fails or succeeds at overcoming their situation this is still a part of their resilience.

He didn’t give up after failing the first time. He kept trying to get where he wanted. His mindset defined him, much like how our mindsets define us. Whether we are optimistic or pessimistic, it plays a huge role in our journeys. Someone who is pessimistic may never achieve his dreams because he constantly doubts himself. He believes that he will constantly fail. Those who have gained success embrace failure because that is what makes them stronger and smarter the next time they work toward their goal. Our mindset is what defines our success because it is what will make us work hard and put an effort into achieving our dreams, no matter how many failures come first.
No matter their size, obstacles can be overcome. When my father died, both my mother and I lost a very important person in our lives. Through my own process and through watching her process of overcoming her loss, I was able to learn that strength can always be found within and around oneself. Whether if the strength is found from diving deep within, or if it is found from leaning on someone nearby, strength can be found to overcome any obstacle.
Most of us go through difficulties, either they be family orientated, be financially based or even with ourselves but, to take hardships and look at them in a positive way is, an attribute that can make anyone successful. Failure is not the end but the beginning of a life lesson. Some of us have setbacks but to remind oneself their only minor setbacks and look at difficulties in a positive manner is a key to success. Obstacles should never deter ones decisions in life either but should be their for encouragement and set a limit to over achieve. One must have the courage to face problems instead of negating or dwelling on them. Learning how to manage those difficulties in a positive manner and overcome those hardships can help become successful.
The obstacles which we must face are not there to hinder our daily life. They are there to provide countless opportunities to obtain greater success. In order to be successful we must look at every obstacle as a new opportunity.
Adversity is hard to go through, that's why motivation and confidence is the key. You can achieve anything you put your mind to. Some people conquer obstacles in ways others can’t imagine. Yes, it may change you soon, but change is extraordinary as long as you're on the right path. People overcome obstacles by keeping a positive attitude, accepting who they are, and never letting others opinions keep you from being you. People overcome obstacles in many ways, but one way is to have a positive attitude. Overcoming Obstacles Throughout a persons life, they are faced with different obstacles, and different challenges of all different types. My life in particular has been full of ups and downs, especially towards my soccer career. In the novel The Pact, three boys, George, Rameck, and Sam, are faced with many obstacles throughout their lives, where they must learn to overcome and achieve great success on their own will power. Essentially, I did the same thing. My soccer career has been one of my most difficult life challenges, creating the person I am today.
In the end in order to achieve success within an individual's life, and become the person one would like to be, you have to go through tough times to become a tough person. Nobody wants to go through pain but in the end that is what defines a person and shapes who they are.
