When you think of adultery, you immediately come into the conclusion of it being a crime that no one will overlook. This is mainly because religion and moral values come into play. A numerous amount of people have distinct aspects compared to other people that are controlled by their religious beliefs. Adultery is crime to many people in relationships because being unfaithful to your significant other really damages the person mentally and emotionally. The Scarlet Letter and Chicago have this in common, both stories have adultery labeled on them The Scarlet Letter is a novel in which a character named Hester Prynne committed adultery. During this time period the people were more well reserved and close minded because of their morals and religion. Hester is a young married lady that desires passion and the feeling to experience being alive. She is wedded to old Roger Chillingworth that left her due to him having to exercise his medical practices on a variety of people. Hester and Roxie have similarities between them besides adultery. Hester got bored in her marriage as well as Roxie, but Hester got bored due to her husband not being there when he needed to be. Roxie’s husband was always there for her and he was even going to take the blame for killing the furniture salesman that Roxie was cheating on him with. In the song “Funny Honey” sung by Roxie Hart demonstrates the type of greediness she has towards her husband. “Sometimes I'm down, sometimes I'm up, but he follows 'round like some droopy-eyed pup, he loves me so that funny honey of mine!” These lyrics manifest how dedicated Amos is to Roxie, he is being manipulated by his own wife.
