“It may be difficult to find your career path” is what I have been told. However, I can attest to the validity of that statement, as I reflect on my experiences in attempting to reach my destination. I am confronted with countless opportunities every day and as the curious individual I am, I found myself repeatedly asking the infamous question, is this final destination? But is hard to judge what particular experience drives the individual to a definite goal. However, I am one of those candidates who was interested in the medical field since childhood, the question was what profession best suits my personality and skills. Personally, I believe that those assisting others at a stage in their lives where they feel hopeless are likely to be happier and live more fulfilled lives. While it may seem as though those who are receiving support are the ones gaining substantial benefits, however, the real beneficiaries are those lending their support and time to others. The emotional rewards that a medical career can bring are endless, the sole reason for my interest in medicine. My family discovered my interest in the medical field at a young age. Whenever one of my siblings was sick, I would immediately transform from the typical kid to the caring healthcare professional, of course, that was in the eyes of a passionate child. Whether it was checking their temperature or providing emotional support to help ease their pain, the intentions was to provide care in any form that would expedite recovery. Playing the role of the medical professional as a child was a way of lengthening and intensifying the joy of living the dream. I was certain it would be an excellent opportunity for a high school student to explore professional opportunities in the medical field. It was also an opportunity to experience a real-world medical career and determine if I am well suited to such a field. I learned patient/resident rights, became familiar with medical terminologies, infection control, and so much more. The program also provided hands-on experience that further expanded my interest in the medical field. My first patient encounter was so pleasant; as I was trying to get her to be comfortable with me; she was also attempting to make me feel comfortable as she knew it was my first day. Seeing that smile on her face gave me a feeling of gratification. At that moment, I realized that being there for those at their desperate moments and being able to lift their spirits is far more rewarding than anything else in life. This intellectually stimulating experience solidified my interest in pursuing a medical career.
