Freshman as a nursing assistant in one nursing home in Washington dc was a tremendous experience for me and I have learned a lot, about elderly and many types of old ages sickness. Therefore I have a wonderful experience and it was a loving place, where you share loves, affection to the elderly that increases their desire to live each and every day. The idea of taking care of someone and providing assistance to a complete stranger is something not many people do. Seeing people at their worst, during a difficult, challenging and frightening moment of their life is not a job many people would take. However, being there for a person at their time of need is what captivates me the most. Nursing, a career I want to pursue and one that is on my to-do list. Being a nurse entails a lot of things; you must be strong, passionate, hardworking, and caring. Becoming a nurse is my ultimate career goal. In the long term a clear-cut decision would be to further continue my education and become an Nurse Anesthetist with a Master's degree.
I knew I wanted to work with people; I wanted further involvement, I wanted to see the results of my hard work, I wanted to make a difference in others lives. I went back to school to become a Surgical Technologist. As a student, I accepted a job at the hospital I interned at. After being in the operating room all day, I constantly was asking to stay late to finish a case or help with whatever needed to be done. I fell in love right away with this new profession.
Nursing is defined as “as an application of scientific knowledge enhanced by artful practice in a socially responsible manner.” (Gregory 5). Nurses provide leadership as members of interdisciplinary teams, provide client centered care to promote health, prevent disease, and restore and maintain client integrity throughout the life span. (Krannich 71). This makes it one of the most interesting professions, in my opinion.
Working as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) one holds the reasonability of other lives in their arms. The life of a typical CNA is characterized by time spent helping others with daily activities such as showering, brushing their teeth, getting dressed and so many other tasks. Becoming a CNA has shaped my life in ways I never would have thought to be possible.
Watching my brother struggle and then being able to overcome these difficulties, as well as seeing other children around him who were not as fortunate, really pushed me, even at a young age, to make a difference. My family, both immediate and extended, were very supportive, and I felt a real positive push towards working hard to achieve that goal of working in health care. In high school, I was fortunate enough to do a cooperative placement at the Peterborough Regional Health Center’s Intensive Care Unit.
A career in nursing is a devotion to assisting those people who are ill and need to be taken care of. To become a nurse one must become qualified in health sciences and be able to have the patience to deal with all type of people. Nurses looks closely at the patience and keep an eye on them to insure that all of them are doing fine and receiving the best care that the nurses could possibly give them. Being able to take care of people is something that I wanted to do as a job when I was a child. As a child my parents bought me toy doctor kit. My father has been a diabetic since he was a kid and I would always do a check up with my toys and I always said he would be okay. I 've always been interested in healthcare since I was a young boy because I would be able to take care of and help people who are ill. Throughout this past year when my father was in the nursing home and in the hospital, I would learn what was going on with my dad from a medical level and then talking to him he would not be able to understand due to his dementia and I would be able to explain things to him so he could understand. The aspect of everything going on and talking to him about so he would not be more worried or upset made him feel more better and relaxed. Having the ability to do that with the patients I come in contact with each day is very rewarding to do that each and everyday.
