The choices we make early in life have an enormous impact on our future. I have always known that I wanted to directly impact people’s lives and my personal experiences have set me on the school-counseling path. In the future, I would love to influence another generation of students to soar for their dreams.

Psychiatric Career
“To study the abnormal is the best way to study the normal” (William James). Psychiatrists never give up on any of their patients and always help anyone who asks for it. Psychiatrists have a never ending work schedule.
Becoming a Psychiatrist has interested me based on the premise of helping others. A psychiatrist is a physician who diagnoses and treats mental disorders in his/her patients. A common misconception is that a psychiatrist and a psychologist are the same thing. Unlike psychologists, psychiatrists attend medical school and obtain a M.D. This gives them the power to prescribe certain medications and even specialize into certain fields such as geriatric psychology, which is the specialization into the mind and behavior of aging adults, child and adolescent psychology, which is the specialization into the mind and behavior of children, and addiction psychology, which is the specialization into the mind of process or substance addicts. In order to become a psychiatrist, one must earn a four year bachelor’s degree in either psychology or something involving life sciences. During Junior Year of an undergraduate school, one has to take the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) in order to apply to medical school. After completing a bachelor’s degree, one must enroll in medical school. The first two years will mainly consist of biology, anatomy, pathology and other science courses. The next two years consists of working with doctors in the psychiatry field. The last year one will apply for residency. The residency consists of being trained for four years in the fields family medicine and pediatrics, neurology, for two years, and spending the last two years in the field of psychiatry. So the educational time to become a certified psychiatrist is approximately 12 years, but before one can be certified, a state certification exam must be passed.
I often wonder what life will bring and what I love to do will do for others. Psychiatrists listen, analyze, and treat those who need help. Times, people, and their views change. Psychiatry is a field that helps those in need of those changes explained. Psychiatry is a challenging field but before someone can commit or give up on this field, they must know how to do it and know what type of psychiatry they would want to do.
Psychiatry is a very flourishing, and rewarding career of choice. It has many upsCareer and downs. I have chosen this to be my career of choice because I like to help people with their problems, and look after them. I have been interested in this career choice ever since I realized that it is important to help others. I would enjoy a job in this career field for a variety of reasons. One reason would be that it pays quite well, however there will be many challenges to getting a job in this line of work. Some of those challenges include a lot of education, tons of money to pay for all of the schooling required, and the opportunity to actually obtain a job in this career field.
I want to pursue a career in social work because I want to help people who are suffering from mental illness and who are underserviced when it comes to getting help for mental illnesses. By working with a distressed person to become better, not only will I be able to enhance their life, but also the community will transform into a more positive place. I view transformation as a ripple effect, where changing the situation for one person eventually causes a change in the majority. This is especially true when it comes to mental illness and the stigma that surrounds it. I have been highly involved in mental health work on my college campus since my sophomore year. I am one of the founding members of our Active Minds chapter, and have held the
I have always known that I wanted my life work to be helping others. Although I did not know what I wanted to do specifically, my goal was to find a career that can better lives of those less fortunate than I am, while also making a good living financially. Through schoolwork and volunteer experience I ultimately chose a path in social work, with an end goal of working with families who have been effected by addiction. I would like to work hands on with those who have the addiction, but would also love to help their family members cope with decisions made by their loved one.
My vision as a practitioner scholar in the field of psychology lies in clinical counseling. As a clinical counselor
Psychology is my number one career field choice. In many ways, it also reflects every other career choice that I have. Teachers lead our young toward successful lives. Government workers help to push policies that improve processes for their people. And professional athletes commit their live to the vast study of their sport and practice to master the skills needed to thrive and succeed. As a psychologist, I can see myself implementing all three of these ideas. I want to master all the skills of psychological diagnosis, improve on many of the processes of the practice, and be able to successfully educate individuals to the point that they feel a sense of empowerment.
Introduction
Nursing as a profession and as a long time occupation, it offers many benefits, and opportunity to grow. Choosing a nursing career means having to explore and choose different types of departments, and areas of interest that would best fit my strengths and my passion. There are many areas and specialties in nursing that we as nurses can grow from, and become a part of which does not limit the education nurses can also attain. Considering the departments and units that I am interested in working can play a very crucial and detrimental of how I will enjoy the job. Here are the three units that I am interested in working after I graduate from West Coast University and accomplishing my Registered Nursing (RN) License such as Psychiatric
