Recommended: My career choice is nursing

Nurses promote health, prevent disease and help patients handle illness. They have a unique set of skills though training and can practice independently, although they also assist all members of the health care field to provide the care and help needed by each patient as an individual. Job occupations in this field are expected to increase 19 percent from 2015 to 2022. The median national annual salary for registered nurses is $65,470. Nurses are hands-on health professionals who provide focused and highly personalized care. The career field has a variety choice of career opportunities, ranging from entry-level practitioner to doctoral-level researcher. Three to four years of schooling is needed to begin your occupation as an entry-level nurse, which is usually a registered nurse.

Nursing Beyond Profession

Advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) is an umbrella term given to a registered nurse who has at least a Master’s degree and clinical practice requirements beyond the basic nursing education and the license required of all RNs and also who provides at least some level of care to many number of patients.
