While feet are stuck inside shoes and socks all day, they can become damp and smelly. They are also prone to infections like athlete 's foot, which doesn 't impact only athletes as the name implies. Anyone can get athlete 's foot if they 're not careful, yet it has nothing to do with hygiene. People who wash their feet daily can still contract the infection, and those who get the infection seem prone to it in the future.
Definition & Facts
Athlete 's foot, also known as tinea pedis, is an infection that is fungal in nature. It usually starts between the toes as a scaly rash that stings or burns as well as being incredibly itchy. There are three different types of fungal infections that can invade the feet. They are a toe web, moccasin or vesicular infection. Each infection impacts a different area of the foot. Athlete 's foot is a close relative to jock itch and ringworm. It can spread to other areas of the body through contact.
Symptoms & Complaints
A toe web infection can occur between the fifth toe and the fourth one. The skin cracks and peels, and it could break down with bacterial infections. The moccasin infection starts with a sore foot. It can progress to the bottom of the foot or the heel becoming thick and cracking. With some infections like the moccasin type infection, it may appear as if the skin is just dry instead of being a fungal infection. In a moccasin type infection, the toenails can become infected, and it can cause them to thicken. The third and last type of infection is vesicular. This infection can appear as blisters under the skin. While they can appear anywhere on the foot, they are commonly on the sole of the foot. With the vesicular type infection, the blisters can progress into a bacterial infe...

...inued the full length of time, it might cause the fungal infection to reoccur. While reinfection is common, treating for the full amount of time will decrease the risk. For athlete 's foot like vesicular type infection, the person might need to take an antibiotic for treatment.
Prevention & Prophylaxis
To prevent athlete 's foot, everyone should keep their feet clean and dry. Cotton or natural fiber socks are best for removing moisture and keeping it away from the skin. In a public area like a swimming pool or locker room, wear sandals to prevent contact with surfaces that might be harboring a fungal infection. When shoes become damp, they should be allowed to air for 24 hours before they 're worn again. If socks become damp, they should be changed as soon as possible. After a bath or swimming, the toes should be dried completely, especially between the toes.
Acute paronychia is most commonly caused by a direct or indirect trauma of the cuticle. Such trauma may be minor and result from usual procedures, such as dishwashing, an injury from a splinter or thorn, onychophagia (nail biting), finger sucking, biting or picking at a hangnail, an ingrown nail, artificial nail application, manicure procedures, or other nail manipulation. This kind of trauma enables bacterial inoculation of the nail and consequential infection, with Staphylococcus aureus being the most common pathogen, although Streptococcus pyogenes, Pseudomonas or Proteus may also cause paronychia. Other anaerobic gram-negative bacteria may also be involved, in case the trauma is exposed to oral flora. Except from bacterial infection, acute paronychia may also occur as a manifestation of other disorders affecting the extremities, such as pemphigus vulgaris.

When the dermatitis is just beginning to develop, it may itch. You should not scratch the area because it would tear the skin and cause the fluid to leak. If you do not get treatment, the skin may begin to thicken and become hard and dark brown. At this stage, ulcers may form on the inside of your ankle.

Impetigo is caused mainly by staphylococcus aurues, which is a chain of globular bacteria (Cronana, Bacteria). There are three forms of Impetigo: Bullous, Non-Bullous or Contagiosa, and Ecthyma, Bullous Impetigo is causes large blisters on the skin that start out as a clear blister then normally turn cloudy, this type of blister stays intact longer on the skin then the other forms of impetigo. Non-Bullous or Contagiosa starts as tiny blisters, as time goes on these blister burst leaving a red, wet patch of skin, after fluid leaks from the blister they crust over leaving the surface a tan to yellowish color, “like it has been coated with brown sugar or honey”(Cronan). Ecthyma penetrates deeper into the skin, down to the dermis layer of skin which is the second layer. Ecthyma is very painful pus filled sores that eventually turn into deep ulcers on the skin. Once the sores break open, they scab over with a very thick hard gray-yellowish crust. Scars may remain even after the sore, or ulcers heal. Ecthyma can cause swollen lymph glands(Staff). The Non-Bullous or Contagoisa is the most common form of Impetigo (Cronan, Staff).
The word patella comes from the great latin language meaning shallow pan or shallow dish. The description of that word could not be more correct, it was meant in reference to balance of food but in anatomy’s case a balance of the body. The patella is a small bone located in front of the knee joint where the thigh bone (femur) and shinbone (tibia) meet. It protects the knee and connects the muscles in the front of the thigh to the tibia. The patella is one of two sesamoid bones found in the body, roughly triangular shaped in size. It’s thick consistency allows for the articulation of the femur, which in turn allows for body support and balance. The patella has multiple body functions with the primary being knee extension. The patella is essential for basic body functions including locomotion;
Maintenance of an appropriate healing environment is also essential throughout the management of diabetic foot ulcers. The choice of dressing is dependent on many factors including presence of infection, amount of exudate and the required frequency of wound bed inspection.

Once school was out last year, I had done something to my foot. I don’t know what happened to it, but I know a general time frame it happened in. At first, I thought it was just my foot getting used to the new summer conditioning. After about three weeks, the pain had moved towards my achilles tendon. Once that happened, I only had pain when I pointed my toes, or pushed through my toes. The pain was to a point where my coach was noticing a change in tumbling, so she had me go to a doctor to make sure everything was
