For as long as history was made, Russia has been portrayed as a very conservative and totalitarian country. It’s gone from Russia to the Soviet Union and then back to Russia, but throughout history, people’s rights have always been limited. The majority of people in Russia have been content with the rules that Czars or presidents have made throughout history but there is always a minority that decides to step up and fight for their rights like their sexual orientation. In June 2013, President Putin created a law against “nontraditional relationships” which in modern day terms means, no homosexual relationships. This law denies gays all their human rights including marriage. Reading about this made me think, what should the world do about Russia when it comes to the anti-gay laws? The law has caused outrage throughout the world. People should be able to have their human rights and be able to marry who they want to marry.
In January 2014, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev stated that there aren’t any gays in Russia that are complaining about the anti-gay laws. He even told CNN, “If you are referring to the situation surrounding the law on the propaganda of so-called ‘non-traditional values’, I believe that only a negligible part of the Russian population is actually concerned about this – that’s my first point. “Medvedev even went on to say that so far he hasn’t heard anything about the Sochi Olympics being endangered and says that being homosexual isn’t banned(Scott Roberts). The LGBT Russian organization would have an opposite argument. Since the laws came out, three gays were arrested and ordered to pay fines for not promoting a traditional relationship. President Vladimir Putin even stepped in and put in his two cents by saying ...

...l gays have ever wanted was to be free and have acceptance for being themselves. In commercials across the world, like those done by the brand Covergirl, the message is always to love yourself and to show off your inner power. If a country is doing the opposite, then it’s going to have backlash like being cut off from the world. The European Union, doesn’t agree with Russia’s terms so maybe they should do something about it. They could end trade and communication with Russia because if they see what they’re doing is wrong then, maybe they’ll give homosexuals their rights back. Since the laws came out, there has been a lot of protests because people want to have equal rights. In the end, the government shouldn’t have the authority to tell people what their sexual orientation can or can’t be. People are going to follow their own arrow no matter what anyone says.
Russia in the 1930s By 1928, Stalin had ousted Trotsky and the rest of the Left opposition. In four years, Stalin had single handedly taken major steps away from Lenin’s collective leadership and free inter-party debate and replaced them with his autocratic dictatorship. Stalin began to secure predominant power over the communist party and the state by destroying passive opposition from the peasantry and former Lenin supporters. He won growing support from the working class, who were impressed with the initial five-year plan. It promised increased industrialization, which would lead to socialism in one country within their lifetime.
Throughout American history, we have seen the United States become more progressive in their social issues, such as the abolishment of slavery, women’s suffrage, and the Civil Rights Movement. But as time has passed, we have encountered another group that is being discriminated against: homosexuals. Some states try their best to give equal rights to homosexuals so that they are respected as equally as everyone else. But in many states, such as Kansas and Arizona, private companies and businesses are given the right to turn down homosexual couples if it interferes with their religious beliefs. These two states also included places like hospitals where homosexuals can be denied from medical attention. These laws are very inhumane and are very hurtful to a large population of people today. But what if the people in states such as Kansas and Arizona think it is okay to have these laws instilled?
Being gay has always been an issue around the world. There will always be three different sides. The people who are against it, people who are for it, and the people who just don’t care. But, by putting a law over it, it can cause an even bigger commotion. “Being gay is against the law” sounds ridiculous, it shouldn’t be a crime. It is not like you’re hurting anyone. Even if you’re gay or not, you are still human and should be treated equally just like everyone else. In the article, Fareed Zakaria uses enthymeme, climax, and apposition to effectively convince the people of Russia that the anti gay law is unnecessary.

The Stability of Russia in 1914 In 1914 Russia's stability was questionable; the Tsar's regime had been under considerable strain due to the unsuccessful uprising in 1905. The Tsar still had the support of the army, which helped to put down many attempts at revolution. However, there was still brewing resentments about the harsh conditions of the Tsar's government that threatened to explode at any time. The peasantry made up a huge proportion of the population and the stability of the Russia depended on their compliance. There had been growing peasant resentments over noble ownership and this resulted in the peasants trying to overthrow the landowners.
The gay rights movement has made great progress in the United States, compared to generations ago, with the legalization of marriage in some states, and also the gaining of certain equal rights. Many people today accept homosexuals within society, and society in general is more...
Currently, only 13 countries offer rights for members of the LGBT community. Within those countries, few offer equal rights such as health care, marriage rights, and adoption to LGBT members. Many people around the globe would agree that these rights, along with all other rights granted to heterosexuals, should not be granted to these members of the LGBT community. One prevalent notion is that being gay, or being included in the LGBT community, is unnatural. This notion is simply incorrect; everyone, no matter their gender, gender identity, or sexual orientation does, in fact, deserve the same liberties as their heterosexual counterparts. Being a member of the LGBT community has no negative effect on the lives of others unless those people view heterosexuality in a negative light, allowing it to bedevil them, and ultimately change the way they live their life. Being gay is completely natural. Though some would argue that homosexuality is unnatural, others would disagree, being that research has been conducted. The conclusion was that the way people think and feel towards others is s...
...qual in dignity and rights. Why have we turned our backs on it? This should remind us that gay people are people. The next step should be public endorsement from credible religious leaders. It might seem impossible or out of our league, but I assure you it is not. Last month Dalai Lama publically stated his acceptance of homosexuality. Pope Francis stated his support for LGBT marriages. But even the biggest efforts will be ineffective, if we treat homophobia in isolation. Homophobes are likely to be people who show a general dislike for stigmatised groups. In order to eradicate this problem from our society, we need to work on overcoming all aspects of discrimination so that we create a safe space for tolerance to flourish.
Throughout history, efforts towards gay rights journeyed on an uphill battle and were not majorly successful until recent years. Starting with the Cold War period in the 50’s, there was a growth in homosexual couples in the urban subculture where they were investigated and harassed by the police. During the 60’s, however, the march towards gay equality took a left turn and there was an increase in gay rights activism. Some goals of the activists were to decriminalize homosexual acts, receive equal treatment under the law, and for people to be educated by unbiased facts about homosexuality. Their efforts prevailed and the activists achieved the following: the right to publish gay magazines, victory of discrimination of employment cases, constraints on police harassment, opening of dialogue in scientific and religious communities, media visibility, organizational impulse, and denunciation of how gays are a mistreated minority. Although they achieved so many things,
President George Bush strongly opposed gay marriage along with most of America 's past and present legislators and politicians. For instance, Minnesota state senator Paul Koering openly came out the closet and admitted being gay when in the past he had voted against the attempted marriage amendments for gays to be legal to unify. Today, more than 35 states have legalized gay marriage. Homosexuals are adopting children because they cannot have one. They take children who were once starving and living in the streets, or abandoned, and take good care of them. I 'd rather see a child with a loving gay couple than to see it sleeping in the street with nowhere to go. Government officials in both state and national offices oppose these laws because if they allow same-sex marriage to occur, they will lose large amounts of votes and supporters will be appalled. The future looks grim for gay marriage with the conservative republicans holding office. Furthermore, legalizing same sex marriage can cause a chain reaction of hostility and violence. Many anti-gay organizations, some resembling the infamous Ku Klux Klan of the 1920’s, will form and be on the doorstep of same-sex couples. This may also perhaps create an international clash and cause other countries to view America more immoral than we already appear which makes gay marriage legalization even more difficult to
As the years have passed, homosexuality has become a very controversial topic. The fact that day by day they fight for equality just to be happy, I think it is an injustice that many people refuse to give them the rights they deserve.
Society is created with both homosexual and heterosexual individuals. Previously when certain laws discriminated against others, such as law for women's rights to vote, these laws were changed. Changing the traditions of the country does not mean that it will lead to the legalization of other extreme issues. Each ...
Gay people want to formalize their relationship and gain some of the legal standing and support that is given to heterosexual couples on a daily basis. Sadly, in most of this country, gay people are denied this right and not allowed to participate in what is a natural right for most other Americans. Efforts by NYS legislatures or Executive Orders by Governors to grant gay and lesbian people rights (i.e. non discrimination in hiring, housing or public accommodations) have been challenged by the right using public referendums. Putting the rights of gays and lesbians, or any minority, up to a vote by the majority places any minority at a disadvantage, and gay rights have usually come up short.
The treatment of the LGBT community in American Society is a social injustice. What most people think is that they just want to be able to marry one another and be happy but that’s not it. They want to be treated like humans and not some weird creatures that no one has ever seen before. They want to be accepted for who them are and not what people want them to be and they deserve the right to be who they are just the same as any other human being. After all the discrimination they have endured they should be allowed to be who they are and be accepted as equals just like people of different skin color did in the times of segregation. We have a long way to go as a country but being the greatest country in the world in the eyes of many great America will make big steps to make things fair.
