Sir Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill was born on November 30, 1874 and died on January 24, 1965 at the age of 90. He was born in Blenheim Palace, Woodstock, England. Churchill grew up in Dublin, and when he entered school he proved to be an independent and rebellious student. Due too his poor grades he was sent to Harrow School, where he joined Harrow Rifle, beginning his path to a military career. Churchill joined the British Royal Military College, and then the army before beginning his life as a politician.
Churchill went through many different government and military positions before he became the Prime Minister of Great Britain. This rise to power began during his early life. Churchill joined the British Royal military College and later joined the army. After leaving the army, in the year 1899, Churchill worked as a war correspondent a conservative daily newspaper by the name of Morning Post. Later, he became a Member of a Party in the Conservative party for Oldham. Not liking the Conservative Party, due to believing it was not committed to social justice; he joined the Liberal Party in 1904. In 1908, he was elected a Member of Parliament, and was appointed as President of the Board of Trade to the Prime Minister’s Cabinet. He served as First Lord of the Admiralty since the year 1911, and from 1919 to 1922 he served as Minister of War and Air and Colonial Secretary. Churchill was then forced to join the Conservative Party again due to fractures in the Liberal Party, and served as Chancellor of the Exchequer, returning Britain to the gold standard. The United Kingdom’s economy after World War II was really bad, since more than a quarter of the country’s economy had been spent on their army.
In conclusion, Winston Churchill played a major role in Britain’s government and their impact in World War II. He occupied many positions in the government throughout his life eventually becoming Prime Minister. During this time, Great Britain fought the Axis Powers along the Allied Powers. He helped lead a successful Allied strategy with General Secretary Joseph Stalin and President Franklin Roosevelt. He also helped create a post-war peace. After the war ended, Churchill was the person who warned the West of the threat posed by the expansion of Soviet Communism.
