Meaning, that almost one in ten students, in the UK and Australia, whom already were planning on attending a university, take part in a gap year. One reason gap years have become popular is that parents have noticed that students are going to college because it is expected of them or for the social aspect, not because they have clear education or career goals in mind (Bull 77). This causes some parents to rethink the idea of a gap year, because college tuition is increasing every year and they do not want to send their child to school if they are not going for the right reasons. Most ‘gappers’ choose to take a gap year because they want adventure, independence, or they want something more that... ... middle of paper ... ...ons of College and Experiences of Stress Prior to and Through the College Career.” College Student Journal 47.4 (2013): 635-643. I think they are saying that if a student is not sure what they are going to be doing during their time off ... ... middle of paper ... ...without even having an idea of what they want to do with their future. I now see that by going into college without having a clear, set decision on what a student wants to do could also make one waste a lot of their time and money. I wouldn’t want to waste my money studying something that I do not want to advance on to later in life. Works Cited Strutner, Suzy. "10 Reasons You Should Take A Gap Year."
In our educational system today many students tend to drop out early due to the fact of lack of motivation or they can’t be in school anymore. Charles Murray, author of “Are Too Many People Going to College?” states the importance of the educational system in America. He has different viewpoints on whether certain people should attend college or not. The lack of interest in school and learning is playing a major effect on the student’s decisions to attend class. However, many students just attend college for a semester to prove to other people that they can survive college for a small amount of time.
It is shown that not many graduates go to college after taking the year off and that is caused by lack of motivation. They had time off to relax and they do not want to go back to the stress. In high school there are people rooting for you to advance in education and go on to college. After having a year off you could lose that motivation. This is why there is a lot of negative reviews on this topic.
Choosing what to become in the future is considerably easy but actually accomplishing that goal is a whole different story. It will be a long journey but will take many important decisions to get there. The first important decision is whether to go to college or not. Up until senior year in high school, students have access to all the help they need to get by. After high school is a new world, many students are on their own to get a chance to form their own life.
Some other students become so discouraged by the idea of college that they drop out all together. Through my research, steps are incorporated to help keep students from such a drastic alternative. Most commonly, students that plan to attend graduate school become either discouraged by the years added or eager to complete their education process early. Each of these three cases involves a diversion from the original plan and they can all be avoided using the same applied theories. I conducted research to determine reasons why people tend to drop out, change majors, and cut their education short.

Waiting on Your future Americans start school very early in life some go to preschool, but most start in kindergarten, then continue school all the way through high school where they graduate. After almost a whole life of going to school, students will finally graduate as most become an adult. Many young adults have to choose to go to college at this point after having no experience in the real adult world before leaving from the comfort zone at home to try to go get a job that many will not be happy with later on in life. ¬¬I argue that students should be able to take time off before going to college because some people are not mature enough or have enough experience to go to college, some are not sure of their career track, and for some
After high school most students will go straight to college, but those who don 't might take a gap year. A gap year is a time between high school and college that students can take to further explore what they want to study in college, get a job or internship, travel, volunteer, or other opportunities. There are many advantages of taking a year off, but there also disadvantages that can effect how the rest of your education will go. For students who have a plan for their time off, their gap year will most likely have a positive effect. However, it can be detrimental to a students education who take a gap year not knowing what they are going to do during their time off.
