The tragic day where nearly 3,000 people died! (MEL pg.1) On September 11, 2001, 4 planes were sent to New York. (history.com 911 attacks) Two hit the Twin Towers, one crashed into the Pentagon, and one crashed in a field in Pennsylvania, but planned to head for the White house. (history.com 911 attack) Today we will examine the damage, recovery, and impact of this tragic day in history. During 9/11, 2,996 people died including 19 hijackers.(cnn.com 911 facts) It hurt us all inside to see the Twin Towers fall. Americans watched in shock as firefighters, law enforcement, and EMS ran into the crippled towers trying to save anyone they could. (911 memorial.org) As a result of the damage a memorial was built and opened on May 21. (wikipedia 911 memorial) It honors all men and women who died in the 9/11 attack. 9/11 impacted our world in many ways. Some of the things that changed our world was, now we have to go through a lot of security in airports; before the attack America didn’t have to do a lot of security as we do now. (pbs.org 911 changed) It also makes us more cautious and aware of the things around us. In addition, this horrible event impacted how people felt about terrorism and helped many decide to join the war.(washington times 911.changed war fighting) 9/11 is now known as Patriots Day. (cnn.hijackers.911) the damage was heartbreaking, the recovery was heartwarming, and the impact changed us all. we need to put all the bad things in the past and need to remember 9/11 as the people of the u.s helped the world recover. nearly 3,000 people died, they will always be in our memory.
