9/11 was a series of four organized terrorist attacks made by an Islamic terrorist group called the Al-Qaeda. These attacks took place the United States, New York City and Washington D.C., on September 11 2001. This was one of the most tragic days of the world, especially for American Citizens. The events that took place on September 11th 2001 (9/11) impacted our country in numerous ways, some for the better but mostly for the worst and it continues to scare as well as affect Canadian citizens today. 9/11 has increased the amount of racist people here in Canada and has made racism a large problem. There have always been racist people in the world which has caused many complications for people. In the past, we did not have many extreme problems here in Canada resulting from racism but that changed after 9/11. Eventually after ten years, many of those security systems became permanent. Many citizens of Canada were afraid to fly after 9/11 and were even too afraid drive to cross the border and enter the United States. The government knew this was a problem because they wanted the country not to feel threatened, they wanted people to feel that Canada is safe. Because of this, Airport security around the world was limiting items that security said could be used as weapons or explosives in Canada. In 2002 the Air Transport Security Authority took over the business of screening at airports. Per our Prime Minister Stephen Harper, the 9/11 attacks have helped shape our country to be more intelligent and aware of current events.
