It's no surprise that most college students aren't rolling in cash. Still, those poor college students get cravings for real dessert once in a while. Cravings that even the Forbidden Fudge Brownie from Friendly's can’t satisfy.

Step inside the chipped red door to the ding of an authentic Swiss bell. Take in the doughy smell of rising pastry, and the hum of refrigerators filled with cakes smothered in chocolate icing and flower fondant. There's a reason why Swiss Chalet has stuck around for thirty two years, earning "Morris County's Best Bakery."Get there in the morning, around ten o'clock (beat the early morning crowd), grab a perfectly chewy, not-overly-sweet cream cheese filled danish with streusel and white icing on top($2.25). If it's sunny, and if there's still room, head outside to one of the little tables on the sidewalk. If you didn't blow your remaining $3.75 on the other treats in the glass case, get a cup of joe, that according to Mark(a regular), will "taste go...

You probably wouldn't want to show up at Soho wearing college sweats, even if they're clean--it's more like an upscale restaurant (read: not like your cafeteria). Even so, it's not hard to find a tasty dessert for under six dollars--plus a little cash for a tip, as you'll have a waiter. Try a slice of classic, creamy cheesecake ($5.95) or a tempting, moist slice of 24 Karrat Cake ($5.95)--three layers interposed with cream cheese icing. The most impressive of all deserts here, however, is the Caramel Granny (which doesn't show up on the website menu, by the way): fresh sliced granny apples baked in a buttery caramel toffee sauce and lined with a flaky sourdough crust. And of course, it's served warm, with a melting scoop of vanilla Haagen Daaz ice cream. Yes, it's only $5.95. Looks like even college students can have their cake, and eat, it too--all for under $6.
It depends on what specific situation the student is stuck in to determine which foods they 're living off. My assumption of their daily meals is first, breakfast is one piece of fruit and a breakfast sandwich from a fast-food joint. Then, lunch or dinner is one entree of pizza, fried chicken, or a burger. Occasionally the student may snack off a bag of chips or a candy bar, but other than that, I can’t say that most students are eating healthy; I’ve seen at my college snacking mostly on chips while taking a break from class. Luckily, there some solutions to help to change the eating habits of the students. I discovered in Victoria Li’s article “Easy Diets for College Students” some helpful tips for the struggling students. She suggests “While opting for burgers fresh off the grill seems tempting, adhere to the habit of filling half your plate with fruits and vegetables, then filling the remainder with whole grains and lean protein” (2). In other words, it’s okay to have a greasy burger, but just as long you have something healthy to go with it, leading to a good balance of protein and energy Li says. As for the students going hungry because of their tight budget, some colleges or nearby locations may have meal donors. Li mentions in her article about the importance of not skipping meals as she says “Feeling famished due
Just remember the next time you hear about sugar, spice, and everything nice. It might not be all it’s cracked up to be. Instead, just look over your decisions that put you in trouble towards your diet. One thing that I came across during this research paper was by a man named Jeffrey Rossman, who has his Ph.D., his words towards this topic was to be kind to yourself. To end the struggle with sugar, learn to nourish your body well and respond compassionately to your own feelings. The best sugar substitute is genuine self-acceptance. By learning more on the problems we Americans face by consuming too much sugar, I have made myself more aware on self-decisions towards my eating habits. Hopefully every ones’ eyes will open when they hear about how much excess sugar we consume, but in all reality it’s only going to help a few. That’s better than none though!
The thing that is special about this pizzeria is that they only offer you pizza pies. They sell nothing else; you can’t even get a slice there, its just either a small, medium, or large pie. Some may be discouraged about this, but the thing that makes this place very unique is how they have over 50 different combinations of toppings for your pizza pie. From anchovies to zucchini, you can get just about anything you ask for on your pie... that is as long as they have it.
The first and most obvious reason for weight gain is food. College cafeterias are smorgasbords of hot, greasy, fatty, empty calorie foods. At Seton Hall University, all freshmen are required to purchase a meal plan that comes with various amounts of Pirate dollars that can only be used on food. These Pirate Dollars are equal to one dollar and students are given an overage each semester. In order to avoid losing money, many students use these dollars to buy snacks in between all three meals. At the end of the year, the money is not refundable, so students must splurge once again in order to avoid throwing away their money. Whether students’ classes are far apart or back to back, they are likely to stuff themselves because they need to prepare to sit through about 3 or more hours of lecture, or their next class isn’t for another two or three hours and they plan to eat and “take a quick catnap.
Since social media has provided a way for people to share pictures of their food, the college diet has become something of a joke. For every post of someone’s delicious top-tier food, there’s a comment in which an anonymous student says that they’ve eaten nothing but ramen (or similar cheap, easy food) for the last 6 weeks.
In all the freedom and choices a college student can face, food is a major one. The campus cafeteria selection...
“Sugar addiction is a rapidly growing epidemic (Teitelbaum, 2010).” According to researchers, on average an individual consumes one-hundred pounds of sugar each year. Americans spend billions of dollars a year on gym memberships, healthy foods and beverages, and exercise equipment. Despite the economic strain, Americans continue to make room in their budgets for weight loss products.

With 136 booth choices, each offering 5-10 menu items, it’s no wonder locals and out-of-towners alike make a point of attending at least a night or two every year.
Once in a while a person gets weird craving. Chocolate to chips might cross one’s mind, but sadly it falls under junk food. People receive limited amount of money each month. Not every person receives the same amount of money. Others might receive more money for different reasons. From reasons to a big family to others earning less money at their job.
One of the problems that cause weight gain is the lack of parental supervision over what the student consumes. In college, a student can easily stock themselves in fatty snacks such as Twinkies, cookies, chocolate, and chips. Also, the all-you-can-eat buffet seems to most likely run out of the pizza, french fries, and ice cream before the salad. A students schedule sometimes plays a factor in the consuming of too many snacks. If a student is in a hurry, he or she will grab a pop tart and be out of the door with a 200 calorie breakfast. A student should keep away from the high-fat snacks and concentrate on salubrious foods. At the cafeteria, a student should try to eat salads and attempt to eat new kinds of foods since the buffet has so much to offer. And for food on-the-go, one should try to buy healthy snacks or try to wake up earlier ...
First of all, students aren’t motivated to eat unhealthy, not-tasty food. If you observed students buying lunch in the cafeteria, you don’t often see them buying these kinds, but not limited to, foodstuffs: burritos (which are just beans wrapped in tortillas), “burgers” (meat slapped on two slices of bread), etc. Even the chicken nuggets aren’t very popular. And the prices! $3.75-$4.75 is not worth such “garbahge”, as a teacher would say. Out of the twenty five students I surveyed, 56% stated that they would like to see their cafeteria changed. The reasons being were, “The same stuff everyday – it gets boring”, “Tastes like plastic”, ...
Probably some of the most pleasurable and enjoyable memories of a person has to do with sweets. When thinking back to birthdays, there is always the memory of the wonderful cake that mother beautifully made and decorated with frosting and glazes. A typical night out with dad can be transformed into a magical evening with a trip to the ice cream parlor. The end of a fantastic Thanksgiving dinner turns heavenly when a hot apple pie is brought to the table and topped with delicious, melting vanilla ice cream. A good wedding is never complete without the cutting of the splendid multi-level wedding cake, when the happy new couple gets to playfully shove and smear cake and white frosting into each other’s smiling faces. Everyone knows that as a child, the only good part about going to the dentist is getting the candy bar at the end of the visit. Why do some people get sick after eating too much suger? Some people do not even know that the abuse of sugar can lead to negative effects on your body. There is something strangely enjoyable and resplendent about the consumption of sugar. Why is it that sugar is so deliciously enjoyable and at the same time a food product that has many negative affects on people’s health?
When one goes away to college, their life changes dramatically. They are forced to make changes in their own lives in order to adapt to college life. When one is in high school and living at home, their eating habits and personal hygiene practices are for the most part controlled by their parents. They are told what to eat and when to eat it. They are told to keep their room clean and to take their vitamins, etc. When one moves away to college, they are on their own. There is no one telling them to clean their room, or to do laundry or what they have to eat. In some colleges and universities, it is required that freshmen live on campus and eat at least two meals a day in the dining hall. This isn't necessarily for the university to monitor a student's eating habits but rather to get the student acquainted with the campus and other people living there. Food served in college dining halls has not been known for it's nutritional value. However, over the past couple of years college chefs have been working to change that. While a lot of students have committed to eating the healthier foods and trying to stay healthy, the vast majority lives on pizza and taco bell or any other cheap fast food chain that is open until the late hours of the night. College is a fast paced environment and fast food caters to college students. In this fast paced environment, students more often than not neglect their health and personal hygiene and the consequences range from obesity to deadly eating disorders.
