In the articles “The Box That Changed America” by Lauren Tarshis and “Television Transformed” also by Lauren Tarshis, they show ways of how americans are drawn to TV because of everything it offers. In the article “Television Transformed” by Lauren Tarshis, it shows how more interesting TV is, and how everyone can watch what they want. The article states, “The number of quality shows is higher than ever, with far more diversity in casting. Families no longer have to fight over what to watch because individual family members can watch what they want on their own devices”(Tarshis 23). This shows how families no longer have to fight, because everyone get watch on their own technology. Plus, now there is a bigger variety of what they can watch.
The case is about the introduction of Tivo, a new service that provides the TV viewer the flexibility to watch what they want when. The product is expected to change the way people watch TV by offering them the flexibility in programming, skipping commercials, pausing live TV and recording programmes for future viewing.
One of the mediums by which this cultural shift has continually happened is through television. Not only does culture affect choices made by those in the television industry, but popular series and talk shows, whether intentionally or not, name what culturally acceptable regarding many social issues. Television, TV for short, is referring to the telecommunication medium by which ideas are transmitted into moving pictures. The Television industry will be defined as the group of brains behind the creating process of a television show of any genre. Genres each have their own purpose and effect on the audience; talk shows mean to engage, while sitcoms, drams, mini-series, and television comedies are meant to entertain. They are planning to integrate their broadcasting company and studio group into a single business. Since they are following in the fashion of many others within the industry, they can project that this change will allow them to better manage their money and it will provide a simpler way for them to make more money. This is because the company's focus will shift to being in only one place. Right now, especially in the field of news broadcasting, there is a push to have more of a positive outlook on changes in social issues. The company will have to address whether or not this fits into their image, at some point in the near future, and make a decision. According to World Economic Forum, as the media and entertainment industry continues to innovate its content (which is based on new technologies and changes in consumption habits), and change formats and business models, it must also balance its economic imperative and social role. So a challenge to the industry, as a whole, is to keep producing transcendent and inventive programs while also remaining up-to-date with popular culture. Finally, Twenty-First Century Fox Incorporated must be sure to be innovative in keeping the company up-to-date as the industry of media and entertainment is constantly changing. Up until recently television has been the most prominent medium of entertainment and information in our lives. Nothing could beat Saturday morning cartoons, the six o'clock news and zoning out from the world by the distractions of prime time sitcoms. It is all of these things and more that formed television into what was thought to be the ultimate entertainment medium, that is, up until now. Television in the twenty-first century is not the television our parents watched or in fact what we watched as children. Today’s generation are no longer satisfied with the traditional television experience. Today’s audience no longer has to follow the network’s predetermined schedule nor is television the one dimensional experience it used to be. Viewers no longer need to schedule a fixed time in order to gather information or watch their favourite show (Smith 5). They can record it with the push of the DVR (Digital Video Recording) button or watch it on a device and obtain background information via the Internet. In addition, viewers now have the opportunity to interact with, share, and produce their own material from their favourite show (5). In order to not lose the authenticity of television, media theorists have created transmedia. This new twist on television gives the user more control and more involvement than ever before. The concept has been termed as transmedia storytelling. The Digital Video Recorder used in modern entertainment systems can now be replaced with an easy to use streaming video devices. As the online video libraries grow to include more content, eventually streaming set top boxes will provide this functionality, without the need to schedule recordings or manage space used by previous recordings. One additional advantage, often referred to as TV Anywhere, allows viewing of online content from a variety of devices, as long as an Internet connection is available. Now the real motivation that drives many Americans to consider these alternative options is money.
