 Winston Smith - Winston was a quiet man who operated the “speakwrite” as a member of the party. Although he is quiet, He as a strong opinion on the way the world, or what he knows of, is ran. Throughout the book he develops into embracing his resistance towards “Big Brother”, however quietly. He joins the anti-party group known as “The Brotherhood”, knowing anything could happen once the “Thought Police” found out. Along the way he realizes how much he could actually love someone when he falls in love with Julia, whom he originally didn’t like. Later, betraying her and his beliefs towards the party when he is broken by his biggest fear. She shares most of the same passions as Winston towards the Party. Julia is a very clever, cunning girl, figuring out ways to involve in illegal activity without being caught by the Thought Police and other officials. She had mapped out secret hiding places and was very outspoken towards Winston. The young, intelligent girl was separated from Winston while in the Ministry of Love, along with being betrayed by her lover.  O’Brien - O’Brien was a deceitful man who Winston and Julia believed to be as a “Brotherhood” member. O'Brien however, ended up being a devoted member of the party and extremely cruel when it came to his beliefs. He eventually succeeded in turning Winston into a loyal member of society as well, making him believe 2 + 2 is indeed 5, not 4, by torturing him with his worst fears.  Mr. Charrington - Mr. Charrington was an older shop owner that that seemed so gracious and kind , however that was what he lead people to be. He lead Winston to believe he was supporting the anti-party group by providing an escape from the eyes of society. Little did they know he was a part of the “Thought Police”, arresting them while in the hideout, exposing his true
