12 Hour Community Service Project

As a member of the Bellevue Middle 8th grade class I completed a 12 hour community service project. I did this project with my group members Ilana Mallock and Maurianna Young. My group and I researched a couple ideas that included making care packages for the homeless and volunteering at a dog shelter. At first, we wanted to make care packages for the homeless. Unfortunately, we were not able to do this because we were not certain where we would find the homeless people and, my mom did not believe it was safe. Instead, we heard the BMS strings teacher Mandy Funderburk talk about a community service project she was running. This project was called Germantown Neighborhood Cleanup. After we made an announcement at BMS to donate clothes we had a lot of clothes, stuffed animals, and books. We collected supplies to give to the homeless shelter. Once we got these clothes Maurianna and I folded all of the wadded up clothes we had. This process lasted for about an hour. A week or two later Maurianna, Ilana and I came to my house. During this time we sorted and counted all the supplies we collected and went through some of my old clothes and toys. We were doing this for two hours. My mother and I then took all the supplies we had to The Nashville Rescue Mission. After we did all of this we worked at the Germantown Neighborhood Cleanup. There we worked with one of the Bellevue Middle teachers, Mrs.Funderburk, and picked up trash in the downtown area.
