Phenomenon Conflict resolution is a process in which interpersonal communication is used to allow two conflicted parties to reach an amicable and satisfactory point of agreement. There are some important things to keep in mind before diving head first into a conflict. There are plenty of different conflict styles (someone’s preference for how they have a conflict).
(Wilmot & Hocker, 2011 p.144) advises that developing a repertoire of diverse styles and tactics may require some stretching of one’s comfort zone. Conflict communications skills Effective conflict resolution with respect to communication can be achieved through conscious awareness of how you listen, summarize, question and interact with people. to begin I respect everyone that I come in contact with and during a conflict resolution session this is somewhat challenging, but when you are in a dispute you could actually dislike the other person. It is important to threat that other person with some respect if within yourself that person does not deserve it. This approach softens the time that I am engaged with the person, and knowing that the issue at hand could possibly affect more than just who is in the room is all the more reason to be mindful of how I treat that person.

William James once said, “Whenever you’re in conflict with someone, there is one factor that can make the difference between damaging your relationship and deepening it. That factor is attitude.” Mediation is a process that can help parties resolve conflict. Even though mediators are not supposed to change the attitudes of parties they can show them the situation in a different light, thus causing the parties’ attitudes to change and the conflict to be resolved. Mediators need to understand there is a lot that goes into conflict and by understanding these concepts and theories they can mediate the dispute in a more thorough and proper way. Managing the conflict is about finding a mutual solution that is amicable to all parties concerned. For the mediator it is most important to have the ability to define the problem while acting as an intercessor and look for alternatives in its resolution while diffusing the conflict. This is possible as it contains a step-by-step method that an be taught to the client and further applied outside of therapy sessions. The method can be simplified to follow the small actions of attitude adjustment, problem definition, creating alternate solutions, outcome prediction and fulfilling the chosen path (Dobson, 2009, p. 212). Altering the attitude to being positive about the problem is crucial as it sets the mental state to place in which motivation to solve the problem can thrive. Furthermore, defining the problem realistically is vital as it allows the individual to understand the full scope of what a realistic goal for overcoming the problem may be. From there the client must create alternate possible routes for them to undertake to possibly solve the problem.
Activity 1: Essay Good communication has the ability to avoid conflict, as well as to resolve it. However, there are many ways in which an ongoing conflict can be resolved. The problem should be clearly stated and you should keep in mind that there is always some kind of positive intention behind people's actions, even if it is poorly expressed.
