Teriana Moore Essay#1 EH 101- Mr. Goldman August 23, 2017 Profile on Oprah Winfrey My mother always told me to look up to someone who has leadership characteristics and exemplifies a strong God- fearing man or woman. I grew up watching her show while getting my hair done and I always admired her thoughtfulness and selflessness. “Think like a queen. A queen is not afraid to fail. Failure is another steppingstone to greatness.” Is one of her quotes that resonated with me; her name is recognizable to people of all races and ages: Oprah Winfrey; and she has been my role model in several of ways. Oprah is the most influential role models for African American women across the world. She is the epitome of if you fail then try again and you will succeed. Who could have imagined that a girl born in poverty and having had her tender childhood years torn apart from multiple sexual abuse, would have created an award winning, high-rated talk show and owning her own television network? Oprah is the wealthiest African-American women that never forgets people’s angst, and has the power to change generations. Her success came at an early age, after being fired from a co- anchor job in Baltimore, Maryland, she hosted a TV chat show called “People Are Talking”. The show became a She managed to overcome her childhood and build off her experience to help other that are similar situations. Oprah is my role model, she has many admirable qualities that I admire. She is an educated, rich and influential woman that is blessed beyond her years. I wish to become a nurse and she has influenced me to work hard despite anything I may endure during my journey. Look at her experiences and be motivated to move forward in life.
