I grew up watching her show while getting my hair done and I always admired her thoughtfulness and selflessness. “Think like a queen. A queen is not afraid to fail. Failure is another steppingstone to greatness.” Is one of her quotes that resonated with me; her name is recognizable to people of all races and ages: Oprah Winfrey; and she has been my role model in several of ways. Oprah is the most influential role models for African American women across the world. She is the epitome of if you fail then try again and you will succeed. Who could have imagined that a girl born in poverty and having had her tender childhood years torn apart from multiple sexual abuse, would have created an award winning, high-rated talk show and owning her own television network? Oprah is the wealthiest African-American women that never forgets people’s angst, and has the power to change generations. Her success came at an early age, after being fired from a co- anchor job in Baltimore, Maryland, she hosted a TV chat show called “People Are Talking”. The show became a She managed to overcome her childhood and build off her experience to help other that are similar situations. Oprah is my role model, she has many admirable qualities that I admire. She is an educated, rich and influential woman that is blessed beyond her years. I wish to become a nurse and she has influenced me to work hard despite anything I may endure during my journey. Look at her experiences and be motivated to move forward in life. Oprah Winfrey is an outstanding & determined bright woman. Winfrey is a very advocate person. She has encouraged and inspired many people, but when she was growing up it was rough for her, but after her courageous and outstanding work, she is now a billionaire and helps a lot of charities.
Oprah Winfrey achieved great success in her various endeavors, growing from a news reporter in Nashville to the world-famous talk show host she is today. During the 1980s, talk shows were a crucial part of daytime television. Shows were organized based upon their content and varied greatly in subject. The popularity of talk shows led many people to enter this field, leading to a constant struggle for airtime. Oprah’s rise to fame began when she moved from her hometown in Nashville, to college in Baltimore and ultimately to Chicago, where she lives today. She appeared on an early morning television program called A.M. Chicago, which was later retitled The Oprah Winfrey Show which aired its first episode on September 8, 1986. Talk shows like Oprah’s were wildly popular, especially to women, because they focused on entertaining their viewers rather than discussing political problems. The thirty-minute to hour-long programs allowed for people to escape their problems, even if only for a short period of time (Rose). Biographer, Ilene Cooper took on the challenge of writing a biography about the complex and extraordinary life of Oprah Winfrey. In an article on the Kirkus Review website, published in 2010, a critic enjoys how the author of the biography, Up close: Oprah Winfrey, “makes excellent use of many quotes from interviews, Oprah’s own writing and, of course, her television show” (“Oprah Winfrey”). This reviewer appreciates how the biographer uses all of her resources to understand more information about Oprah. Oprah Winfrey is a name that needs no introduction to most people in the world. Starting her journey with nothing, today , she has everything anybody could wish for and more. She has the money, the friends, the fame, the respect and as she repeatedly has pointed out as a comical comment, the shoes.
To conclude, Winfrey is well known around the world through all of her accomplishments. She is considered a role model to many because she is an influential, very generous, and confident woman. She is a very successful woman who started her career very young and inspires young people to follow their dreams.
She started with nothing, being the poorest of poor and grew to be a media giant. She overcame poverty, neglect, sexual abuse and racism. Through it all she never gave up and this is why she will inspire others to do the same.

Oprah Winfrey is an inspiration to many all around the world. She did not have a very good home life up until the age of 14. She was abused as a child and did not see her mother very often because she was a housemaid who was gone almost every day all day. Vernon Winfrey, Oprah’s father, was a big service in her life when it came to keeping her in a nonviolent manner. Oprah also had her career going for her when she became Miss Black Tennessee at age 17. When Oprah became Miss Black Tennessee she was offered a radio broadcasting job and a full scholarship to Tennessee. Oprah had quite a few talk shows yet she made the most money off her own show, The Oprah Winfrey Show, and now has her individual network called The Oprah Winfrey Network. Oprah Winfrey’s influential style greatly impacted those who came after her in the entertainment industry.
Oprah Winfrey was born on January 29, 1954. (“Oprah Winfrey Biography”). Oprah had a rough childhood (“Oprah Winfrey Biography”). She constantly moved from her mother’s house to her father’s house (“Oprah Winfrey Biography”). When Oprah lived with her mother she was raped (Lies, 2011). When Oprah lived with her father, she excelled (“Oprah Winfrey Biography”). Oprah’s rough childhood and thriving high school and college years definitely influenced her contributions to the world later showing ethical leadership (“Oprah Winfrey Biography”).
Qualities Leading to a Successful Legacy Perseverance hallmarks a quality vital to Oprah’s success. Although Oprah endured sexual abuse, racism, and a neglectful mother, she did not allow these setbacks to hinder her success (Greathouse, 2012). Oprah recognized that her success did not depend on her childhood and the sinful actions of other individuals (Greathouse, 2012). For example, after Oprah experienced rejection through a job demotion, she continued to pursue her passion for communication by auditioning for other shows (Lies, 2011, p. 40-45). If Oprah did not embrace perseverance, her success would be non-existent; her perseverance triumphed over horrendous circumstances.
Oprah has continued to demonstrate throughout her life that it does not matter your color, your gender, your social class, your age, etc. it is all about who you are and want to be as a person. As a young minority African-American girl, Oprah’s life was indeed a struggle, but with her smartness, she managed to gain the confidence and courage to move past her hurdles. Today, not only is Oprah a well-known role model to other women around the world of all ages, she is also a famous leader with strong influential skills to make positive changes in peoples’ lives everywhere. Oprah achieved many honors and awards in recognition of her extraordinary achievements and contributions, including several other prestigious awards.
Oprah Winfrey is an African American woman who is known as a U.S. media celebrity. She has done so much to contribute to society as we know it and her legacy will forever live on. Mrs. Winfrey is well known and she uses her platform for positivity and love, which is a huge reason for her success. She is an intelligent leader who worked hard for the spot she has in life and strives to encourage others to be successful also. She wants people to help and care for unprivileged people. Oprah thinks that education is a right and not a privilege. She wants everybody to have a good education no matter who they are.
