America has been fortunate to have two of the most successful representatives as the United States First Ladies. Although, First Lady, Michelle Obama, comes from humble beginnings and Former First Lady, Laura Bush comes from an affluent family, their contribution to the American people have been positive. She had the opportunity to attend prestigious universities and pursue a career in education and consequently a public librarian. Her household consisted of her parents and her, since she had no siblings. She was always reading and her love for reading led her to follow the road of education. She has always expressed her love for education and most of her contributions were thinking about education and making literacy more accessible. She expressed her decision to support her husband’s view when it came to literacy. On the other hand, Michelle Obama comes from very humble beginnings. Her family circle consisted of both parents and a brother. Her father was the household breadwinner, even though her father suffered from a medical condition, the family unit was very close and education was always a priority in her house. Michelle Obama’s parent always made that clear to her and her brother. The commitment to education helped her and her brother to go to college and graduate from Ivy League schools. On the contrary of Laura Bush, Michelle Obama chose to become a Lawyer. She was always interested in the law process and became very successful as a lawyer. While completing her role as a First Lady from 2001 to 2009, Laura Bush conducted herself in a very modest and almost silent style. Reluctant to be involved in politics, tragic events forced her to be more active in her role as a First lady. The first lady appears to be trustworthy, in that she holds true to her contract of marriage although her husband has made and abomination of the sacred agreement. The marriage now, however, may actually be more political, but Mrs. Clinton makes it seem that she is not giving up on the marriage, a strong virtue especially in today's society. Mrs. Clinton is also a great liberal and advocates for many minority groups such as homosexuals. If one were to look back one hundred years in time, the world would look drastically different. In fact, the United States would be almost unrecognizable. Not only would clothing, transportation, and the price of milk look different, but men and women would not have equal rights, racial issues would be dangerously prominent in society, and an organization geared toward world peace would be nonexistent. One woman made a colossal effort during her lifetime to create change for the betterment of her country, and also, the world. Eleanor Roosevelt, often given the title of “First Lady of the World,” according to the article, “(Anna) Eleanor Roosevelt,” was the wife of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Many people admire and remember Eleanor Roosevelt for her unfailing dedication to her husband’s presidency; however, few realize that she was unlike any first lady before her, in that, Eleanor was independently involved in her own political platforms and beliefs.
“For me, education was power.” Michelle Obama has always been a major advocate for many different causes, such as education, health, and support for military families. Her work to make people’s lives better has influenced many people to join the causes and have healthier lifestyles. Becoming First Lady gave her a large influence and began her support of many causes, which has made her one of the most influential people of this century.
Motherhood is the main point of focus in both forms of text. While is Truth's speech she talks about motherhood being robbed from her due to slavery, Obama talks about Michelle's motherhood being stolen by her career. Both of these examples are heart breaking and sorrowful because as a women becoming a mother is one of the greatest gifts of all time. As far as the workforce goes Truths labor is back breaking manual labor that causes a disconnect in her womanhood Michelle's work is tedious, time consuming, and can cut into time with her children. Another important similarity in both of these text are the stereotypes. Truths are racial stereotypes and Michelle’s are gender. All of the similarities in the text give the reader an insight on how women feel on a daily basis because we can be robbed of motherhood, be pressured in our workforce, and have stereotypes put on us. Although these texts were written in different time periods they show the reader women go through many of the same struggles women went through 100's of years ago today. Both of these figures, Truth and Michelle are very strong women who know how to impact a large group of people to make them realize that stereotypes of women are cruel and the world should learn to move on and unite as a whole to create a stronger more effect community.
Barack received a bachelor’s degree from Columbia University and then worked as a community organizer on the South Side of Chicago. This helped him gain a lot of confidence and responsibility. He had many plans and goals to make the community better. He achieved his goals and this was just the beginning of a successful path in his life. He decided to attend Harvard Law School, which helped him bring change for himself, his family, and especially to his community. Also in that school he also gained the knowledge and power of becoming a leader that he wanted to become.
Clinton has become popular with my generation, and her name has certainly gotten more recognition as she gains a stronger hold in politics. I chose Clinton because she is a very active enthusiast for human rights, more specifically those of children and women. Two groups that often get overlooked, and in many countries they are the ones who suffer the most. I identify with Clinton because I have experienced gender prejudice, and obstacles that stand in my way simply because I am not male. When I found her speech given at the United Nations fourth World Conference on Women, I knew it would be the perfect piece to analyze because of her broad background on supporting women’s rights, leading to her having a strong ethos and logos to support her speech. And of course her pathos resonated with the first-hand experience she’s had in countries where women and even children are oppressed. The speech Clinton gives is one that not only compliments women’s accomplishments in history, it also sheds light on the areas of human rights that still need to be improved upon.
In this paper, I consider the growing role of social media in presidential politics during the current era. The research questions the extent of the political impact of social media on the president and his communication with the public. It is necessary thus to examine the properties that make social media an attractive tool to use, the different ways the president interacts with social media, and both benefits and limitations of using social media as a platform for communication. As a result, it is essential to make conclusions regarding the nature of the relationship between social media and the presidential politics.
An overwhelming message that Obama mentions throughout the book is the idea that America can offer hope to anyone from any background; and to make sure that every person gets equal opportunity, a couple governmental changes are needed. Bill Clinton and Barack Obama have many similarities. Both of their first terms as President were shockingly alike such as, job approval rating difference being only point five percent and the interest in reforming available healthcare to people of lower class. Both President Clinton and President Obama were referred to as black presidents, only because they didn’t uphold the same backgrounds as did the former presidents. Neither Obama nor Clinton had a personal relationship with his father, which meant both grew up in a single parent working household – a reality rare in the time period. Both young Obama and young Clinton grew up aspiring to be great lawyers; they married lawyers Michelle and Hillary, respectively. Clinton, as well as Obama, belong to the Democratic Party. However, despite the many similarities between the two, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama could not be any more different. In the autobiography, Obama entails on the beginning journey of his life from early childhood to young adulthood. The novel begins with him finding out from his aunt that his father has passed away in Nairobi. Obama’s father left him and his mother when he was only 2 years old. Obama then talks about the family he grew up with, his mother and grandparents, and the racism they dealt with at a time when few accepted interracial relations and even more so marriages. He recalls being made fun of as a young child when other kids would make monkey noises when it was discovered his father was from Kenya. He then moves to Indonesia when his mother remarries, but then at 10 years old moves back to Hawaii where he spent his early childhood. It was with his grandparents that he developed much of his character and learned how strongly education was emphasized in his family. Obama also talks about how fascinated he was with by his father. As he grows a bit older into adolescence, Obama learns more about race relations and reads the book Heart of Darkness.
