Participating in team sports is important not just for health reasons, but also for your healthy intellects and emotions. Playing sports that is in range of the player’s interest helps relieve stress and maintain their mental health. A team is mostly about unity within the team and with the coach, so no one can be selfish. Therefore playing in team sports develops good characteristics within oneself. Being part of a team sport should help create the opportunity to gain meaningful insight into one's leadership, social and cognitive development. As Shannon indicates athletes are slowly taking in that role of building those key characteristics. For instance the role of being a leader and owning up to their responsibilities. Also containing leadership characteristics helps athletes with their social skills. In other words team sports presents valuable life lessons and experiences within a group setting. There are endless situations that could take place between the teammates or with the opponents during the game. These types of sports teaches athletes to hold their composure and be mature when there is conflict, and will use these techniques later in life in numerous group settings. As athletes gain their social skills their cognitive intuition starts to kick in. Participating in sports also helps with athletes thought process. For instance in sports there are key strategies athletes need to comprehend in order to do well in their sport, so athletes are involved physically and mentally.
