Entrepreneurial competencies alone are not enough to ensure the success of an enterprises. Since, SMEs have scarce resources of finance, skills, technology and knowledge, their success highly depends on other factors such as entrepreneurial mentoring. Studies done on entrepreneurship have highlighted the role of entrepreneurs in business success however little has been done on the influence of entrepreneurial mentoring and competencies to enterprise success among women entrepreneurs.

Growing a successful business through trial and error decreases the probability of success (Cope, 2010; Parker & van Praag, 2010; St-Jean & Audet, 2011). Successful, experienced entrepreneurs share business knowledge and experiences with other entrepreneurs to help them to successfully run their enterprises by assisting them to avoiding costly and critical business mistakes (Choi & gray, 2008; St-Jean &Tremblay, 2011). A recurring theme in business literature is valuable contribution mentor’s play in helping entrepreneurs to successfully operate their businesses (Krotz, 2011).

The model provides a useful structure for the dialogue within the mentoring relationship, providing a structure for mentors to consider the spheres in which their relationship with the mentee can work. This cover the mentors supporting the entrepreneurs to develop an understanding of the context (industry, sector, networks) in shaping the development of the entrepreneurs’ personal and social identity with respect to their business and in how they work with others.
