What is my profession’s role in society (community, government, business/industry)? What skills will I need to be successful in this role?

The engineering scientist profession has recently been garnering a growing influence and recognition within today’s society. Engineering scientists combine their logical thinking abilities, computational savvy and high calibre mathematical knowledge to become an integral and vital part to resourcefully improving the overall wellbeing of the society in which they are incorporated. These skills and attributes are needed and desired in various industries and aspects of our modern day society. This opinion piece will describe how Engineering scientists operate in the private and public spheres of society by using their unique skills and catering them to each specific segment of that said society and their role in the future.

The ‘public sphere’ mentioned shall for the sake of argument combine both the community and government spheres of society. In order to find out what an engineering scientists’ role in a society is we must ask the question: “What is the engineering scientists obligation to his or her community and government?”. Based on most western nations governing structure, government does not (or at least should not) see the distinction between the rights and obligations of people of different professions who operate legally in the private sector. ...ected population growth and the diminishing availability of easily accessible non-renewable resources. Due to the high likelihood of these strict future resource constraints, an engineering scientists’ role will become progressively more important as they are able to decide how to optimally use, manage and sustain the dwindling few available resources.

Engineering Scientists are indeed becoming vital in further improving the way that society functions. Whether it is abiding by the laws of the public sphere or the contractual laws of the private sphere; engineering scientists are able to provide the reusable optimal solutions that are wanted by the society of which they are a component. Their strong background in mathematics, computation and logical thinking make them ideal for solving the seemingly endless plethora of problems the 21st century presents.
