Energy in the World Around Us How can we make energy more affordable and better for the environment? Once our fossil fuels run out, we cannot just go out and make more. The fossil fuels that we use today, took millions of years to create. So what happens when we run out? We will have to look to other sources of energy to serve the growing population. There are many sources of energy in the world that are renewable sources and will always be there. The main sources are wind, the sun, the moon and stars, and water. These are all reliable sources of energy that we will be able to access very easily in the many years that we will have to face. Nonrenewable resources are resources that take millions of years to replenish. In 2006, BP, the British Petroleum Company, released research indicating that there are only around 1,200 billion barrels of oil left in all of the world’s reserves (Issitt & Warhol). That means there are approximately 368 years until all of the world’s fossil fuels are used up entirely. Therefore reductions and changes need to be made; alternative energy can substitute and take place of the nonrenewable fuels. All alternative energies are renewable resources; there will always be sun, wind, water, and geothermal heat. These resources restore themselves and will never run out as opposed to fossil fuels; there won’t be any concerns about scarcity or frantic searching among energy corporations if they start investing in building alternative energy companies
Fossil fuel has in a sense fueled our economy and way of life for decades, and in many ways we have taken these resources for granted. Eventually they will run out or the price per barrel will be so astronomical that the average American will not be able to afford to buy gas. Renewable energies have the power to save our environment and change the world as we know it. The most important thing that we, as Americans need to do is to be open about other options that become available to us.
Those old enough to remember the gas shortage of the 1970s will realize what could happen if we run out of fossil fuels without a viable alternative. Today, fossil fuel reserves are getting harder to extract and are of lower grade and insufficient volume to meet global demand. Concern about fossil fuels and their effect on the environment are becoming more important. So how can the United States lessen its dependence on fossil fuels? To truly solve the problem, it will be necessary to change much of our infrastructure as well as our day to day practices regarding transportation, food and electricity.
Alternative energy sources are renewable, and is most commonly referred to as free energy sources. There are many alternative energy sources such as hydro power, solar power, wind, biomass, and geothermal. Using alternative sources is more expensive in the long run, but it is the much safer option for our environment compared to fossil fuels. Although everything used is completely free, such as water and wind, the equipment used to generate these things are expensive. There are several pros and cons that come with the utilization of alternative energy sources.
I believe that if we don’t move toward limitless resource we will be trapped using oils and gases forever. "I'd put my money on sun and solar energy. What a source of power! I hope we don't have to wait till oil and coal run out before we tackle that," by Thomas Edison. The journey to renewable resource will be a long one, but will only happen if everyone works together for the effort.
We depend on energy; nothing in our daily lives could be possible without it. Electricity primarily comes from burning fossil fuels or using nuclear reactors. But the plain truth is, we are running out of fossil fuels. Our known oil deposits will run out in approximately 35 years, and if we increase the use of natural gas and coal to make up for the energy loss, our natural gas will last for 45 years and coal deposits will deplete in 75 years.
People can also reduce the use of fossil fuels by doing simple things for instance switching off lights and appliances when leaving the room. Walking or cycling instead of driving a car or use public transport for maybe longer journeys. Little things like this will make a big difference, making our planet a better place.
The United States currently relies heavily on coal, oil, and natural gas for its energy. While the price of natural gas per barrel continues to plummet, the United States is constantly seeking new sources of renewable energy. Renewable energy consists of any type of natural resource (solar power, ocean power, wind power, rain, snow, etc.). that naturally and automatically replenishes itself. Renewable energy is important because it is infinite and everlasting, meaning our children and our children’s children will be able to utilize these resources long after we are gone.

Energy can be put into two broad categories Renewable energy and none renewable energy. Renewable energy sources can be reused continually as they are abundantly found in nature. All of them are non-polluting but devices used to collect the energy may impact the environment adversely. They are free but producing storage equipment or converting them into another form of energy may be costly.
There are different kinds of resources that we can use in order to produce renewable energy. Solar power, wind power, hydroelectric power are just some of the kinds of renewable energy that might be the best options to obtain energy because they come from natural resources. Although renewable energy can be expensive to build, it has less environmental damage in comparison to non-renewable energy. Besides the natural resources such as sun, wind, water and hydrogen, we also have geothermal power, and biofuels as renewable sources.
Wind is a form of solar energy. The term wind energy describes the process by which the wind is used to generate electricity or mechanical power. Wind turbines convert mechanical energy from the wind into electrical power. Wind turbines usually have three main parts. There are blades that connect to a central hub, a box behind the blades that contains the generator, and a long stem that connects to the ground. The way how it works is that the wind turns the blades, which spins a shaft that connects to a generator making electricity. After the electricity is produced it is sent through transmission lines to a substation that is sent to business and homes. For the sake of our planet, we must promote a renewable energy economy. Wind power can be a foundation of that sustainable energy future because it provides jobs in states that are building wind turbines, is a renewable energy source, and does not damage our environment. The environment will not be damaged by the pollution, the natural resources will not be used up, and there won’t be generating of hazardous wastes. Welcoming wind energy today will lay the foundation for a healthy tomorrow that will affect everyone in the United States. There are obstacles and challenges that will make it more difficult, but the environmental impact is well worth it to invest more money into wind energy.

Imagine a life without lights, televisions, computers, trains, washing machine, refrigerators and microwaves. Imagine a planet so polluted that smog is in the air so bad that one cannot see very far, lakes and streams are poisoned, and land so badly scarred from people trying to find more energy sources. This may become reality in nearly future as a result of abuse of our energy resources. That reveals that energy is most important in our life, while a planet where we live is important too, a planet which effected by both generate the energy to meet our demands, and our use of energy.
