Conflict simply refers to the disagreement or to be contradictory with the opposition regarding their interests, ideas, views, perception etc. Conflict is a situation in which two or more people disagree over issues of organizational substances and experience some antagonism with one another. It denotes struggle between opposing forces for victory or supremacy. Conflict can be aroused within the family, organization and various other places. It occurs due to the differentiation and collision of the thought, nature, and perception and so on.
Conflict can be examined and addressed through two categories in order to deal effectively. They are: - Substantive Conflict: - It is conflict that occurs in the form of fundamental disagreement over ends or goals to be pursued and the means for their accomplishment. For example: - In a workplace, conflict occurs due the disagreement with one’s boss over a plan of action to be followed in marketing for a new product.
Emotional Conflict: - It is conflict that involves interpersonal difficulties that arise over feelings of anger, mistrust, dislike, fear, resentment and the like. It is commonly known as a “Clash of personalities”. For example: - a dislike for a co-worker who is always belittling the members of an ethnic or identity group.
Differing in understandings of a situation and clashes between different roles and limited sources are the other reason for the conflict. Conflict can be examined from different communicative levels:-
1) Intrapersonal conflict: - It is conflict that occurs within the individual as a result of actual or perceived pressures from incompatible goals or expectations.
