Training and development programs help increase both morale and performance of the workforce. By adding job relevant training programs will send a message to employees that professional development is a top priority within the corporation. The initial and ongoing training of an employee assists to improve their skill set, learn new technology increases productivity, and job performance (DemandMedia Inc, 2012).
New hire training starts during the first week of employment for set duration receiving orientation to continue training, and obtain managerial skills; after-sales service skills, communication development techniques, time management, organizational methods and strategies as well as team-building techniques. This progressive training component may focus on individual performance but can assist the employee to improve their skill set, improves how to manage subordinates and reduce turnover rates. Leadership training helps the employees looking to pave their career path within the industry and mentor current supervisors on new, effective leadership strategies, and encourage employees with their individual goals (DemandMedia Inc, 2012).
Training existing employees for future responsibilities helps in their ability promoted from within. Once employees see movement up from within the organization, others motivated to participate in those same programs, thus increasing productivity in current responsibilities, gaining a possible promotion, and incurred increased revenue. Identifying future leadership, review performance evaluations, and advancement of current managers cuts expenditures in training and recruitment (DemandMedia Inc, 2012).

...oyer for about a year. During which, I was fortunate to have leadership who is supportive to a path that assists at making me an asset to the corporation in management capacity. As their employee one was not expected to apply for other employment outside the company unless you have left the company for at least six months. Widespread experience in management and some experience with creativity gave the president a reason to make an exception and gave permission for the chance to apply for promotions within the industry.
Another way the president provides assistance with career development is by letting obtaining a Bachelor’s degree while I am working. With his support currently and resources from DPR provides career development opportunities that can easily find in either learning or development position within DPR or another location within the next five years.
However, before a hired employee enrolls in a training program, they must go through orientation. Orientation provides new employees with the information they will need to succeed in a company (Woods 163). Orientation helps reduces the stress of beginning a new job, gives an overview of the business, and provides the employees with the expectations within the workplace. After orientation, the employee will begin training. Training is specialized to the position that the new employee is about to enter. Training should encompass the knowledge and skills that one should know to be able to complete the day-to-day tasks. For a training program to be successful, it should include the following
I will discuss the National Career Development Guidelines and will address each section of the guidelines in terms of its importance in career counseling. As well, I will critique an activity that is used in elementary school setting against the guidelines to compare if the activity meets the standards.
Career development should begin right after the individual is hired and all on-boarding training is concluded. An organization’s corporate culture has a lot to do with the career development of their employees. It should be stated and understood by new employees what is expected of them and are by the organization to attain different positions. One way to help new hires with career development is for the organization to have a mentor program in place. For the individual, they should have already established within themselves short-term and long-term goals to avoid being stuck in a rut or becoming overworked and underpaid.
The goals include training on leadership. The objective is for management to gain the proper skills to effectively lead teams, resolve conflicts, and better their management abilities. The training will address employee turnovers to low wages, effective communication strategies, and effective leadership. Management will become more strategic in selecting the right candidates to fill positions. The knowledge and skills attained will be that managers will become better leaders by becoming more empathetic. Employees will begin to feel appreciated and become more motivated. As a result, the company’s morale will be boosted and there will be less consumer complaints about bad customer service.
Furthermore, I learned that creating an environment where employee can development is crucial to the long-term success of any organization. Moreover, this project taught me that employees must supported by the leadership of the organization and provided the necessary resources to develop their abilities. Leah Richards (Chron) stated: “Employee development involves providing employees with the information, tools, training, resources and support needed to learn and grow on the job. Effective employee development benefits the employee, the department, the manager and, ultimately, the company as a whole”.

Workplace education is one of the most essential factors that companies must take into consideration when they are to evaluate the different methods for improving their employee’s competency and skills and the company’s competitiveness in the market and its overall quality. By utilizing workplace education practices such as in-house training, seminars, peer to peer learning, online modules, etc., companies are able to attain high training effectiveness for their employees. As mentioned by Noe and Peacock (2008), “training effectiveness refers to the benefits that the company and the trainees receive from training” (p. 134). The training effectiveness benefits apply to both the employee as well as their respective employer. Benefits for the employee may include behavioural changes or even acquiring new skills. For employers, trained employees could provide a more competent team, increased expertise, an increase in productivity, and even higher sales.
