Dom Henrique of Portugal is also known as Henry the Navigator. Prince Henry was involved with the expansion of Portuguese rule in the Pacific Islands. His main reasons for his voyages were to explore Africa, expand trade, and expand Christianity. This is important because Prince Henry’s goals and achievements are what inspired Vasco de Gama's discovery of a way to India and Christopher Columbus’s voyage to America[ "Prince Henry the Navigator." Prestage, Edgar. (accessed February 17, 2014). http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/07239a.htm ]. When the governor of Roanoke, John White, arrived to Roanoke in 1590,there was only one clue about the disappearance that remained. The letters ''CRO''were written on a tree nearby. No one had knowledge of what happened to the colonists or where they might have gone. The question that is still being asked is,'' What happened in the time between when White left and returned?'' and , '' How did the events leading up to and after Roanoke affect the later colonies?'' There were eleven children, seventeen women, and ninety men that were supposed to be in Roanoke , but no remained. It is a mystery that hasn't been solved up to this day.

Among some of the largest conflicts in the world stand the Crusades; a brutal conflict that lasted over 200 years and was debatably one of the largest armed religious conflicts in the history of humankind. Since this is so clearly an event of importance, historians have searched vigorously for the true answer as to why the crusades began. Ultimately, because of accusatory views on both the sides of the Christians and of the Muslims, the two groups grew in such hatred of each other that they began to act in deep discrimination of each other. Moreover, Christian motives seemed to be driven mostly by the capture of Jerusalem, the dark ages of Europe and the common-folks desperation for land, wealth, and a spot in heaven. What seems to be continually

Throughout the world’s history exploration has been a major factor is the developments of the world, but who is the greatest explorer? One explorer that has caught my attention is explorer and navigator, Pedro Alvares Cabral. Pedro Cabral was a Portuguese man born between 1467 and 1468 in Belmonte, Portugal. He was born into “Noble Portuguese Family” (Elizabethan-era.org.uk, n.d.) and from that was able to receive proper and advanced education. Looking deeper into Pedro Alvares Cabral’s life I determine him as the best explorer ever due to multiple reasons: Cabral was a man who had the right attitude on his exploration of the world, added onto the accomplishments of past successful voyages to improve results, and also made his own findings with success of his mission. All of these are signs of how Cabral tops even more well-known explorers of time.

These would take place in Malacca and Moluccas also known as the Spice Islands. In the year 1510 through hard work and acts of bravery he would be promoted to the rank of captain.
