The Morningside Elementary School is offering the Second Language Program class for nonnative-English speaker students. Students will focus on Basic English practical skills for 35 minutes a day for five days a week.
SLP class combines creativity and language skills for different student level proficiency. Students will be able to step out the general teacher-centered instruction classroom setting. The program is open to all 2nd through 5th grades.
The curriculum divides by 35 minutes. The teacher then directs the students to…for then minuesThe first 10 minutes is programmed to listening and speaking. Then, students receive the opportunity to write and integrate with other students in the classroom. A review of the daily lectures in class will be assign as homework. Homework is beneficial for students to invest outside of the classroom. The only way students can continue the learning process is by completing the assigned homework for review, support and independent study (Gomez, 2014).
The classroom equipment is set up as a regular elementary school class in the United States, 12 student desks, a whiteboard, a projector and ESL books. Students will not have the assistance to work with high technical equipment such as computers and IPads. Although technology can be use as a learning development, school fund is limited. In the future learners will apply their “digital wisdom” to puzzle or project-based assignments on classroom computers (Prensky, 2010 from 545).

The TPR activities will help students comprehend complex syntax. Practical activities that involve students to move around will help them feel comfortable. A stress-free environment will help students learn to engage in the classroom activities. Their confidence will slowly develop as they realize their learning process. Through the operation of practical activities students will produce comprehension, the flow of language. Students will demonstrate the target language by completing communication tasks, language comprehension and listing simple words to basic sentences. The intention of the lesson content is to set goals for students to grasp the beginning level by exposing examples and patterns.
