Electronic bulletin board systems first started in 1980. Today, however, there are many social networks in use by millions of people around the world. Instagram,Vine, and Twitter are extremely popular ways to communicate with friends and family. Technology, today, helps many people learn and study new thing, but to some it is highly addictive and corrupted. It is harmful to be addicted to technology because of the impact of technology, the unhealthy lifestyle it creates, and the negative affects it has on the brain.
Technology has a huge impact on humans lives today. “Now people prefer to interact via interact than personally” (importance of technology 2). Internet, cell phones, and e-mailing are some different ways to communicate now days besides talking in person. A lot of the vocabulary that is used in the twenty-first century is abbreviated, such as: by the way (btw), talk to you later (ttyl), be right back (brb), best friends forever (bff), and more. The internet is used for education in many ways. Using the internet could be an awful source, because a lot of the information is opinions. Therefore, people are using false information.
“Children prefer to play online games than to take part in physical activities.” (importance of technology 2). When on a website the mind tend to stay “ tuned in” and soon hours have gone by. People will sit and watch television and be on websites twelve hours out of a day, not knowing that it is extremely unhealthy, because people are being entertained. That is a reason why a lot of people are lazy and out of shape.
People today live such an unhealthy lifestyle due to technology. Social media, such as, Twitter,

...m, speak to others around the world, get to know people, and just have fun on. In reality, the brain cells are dying every minute spent on it. Technology does have a huge impact on the lives of individuals today. That could be good or bad; it just depends on what it is being used for. People are living an unhealthy lifestyle, because technology has captured the minds of people. Which, then, turns into technology becoming addictive, and changing our brains. Technology can be used for good. Do not sit all day watching television or messing around on computers. Do not let social media take over life. Do not let technology stand in the way of relationships with the Lord and Savior. In today's generation it feels like having to have social media because it is not possible to live without it. Humans can live without social networks, but humans cannot live without Christ.
As people can probably see this today, technology is not only harming our attention spans, ability to efficiently complete tasks, and think and communicate, but also harms our abilities to communicate with one another. Although cell phones, tablets, and computers were made to supplement the user's life, they actually do more harm than good for our society, because of our ignorance to the harmfulness of it all. People can argue all they want about the good and bad sides of technology but the fact of the matter is change is needed, and our future generations can take a lot from what the Dalai Lama once said, "Real change in society must start from individual initiative."
As a society we should be careful when using technology or we may succumb to its grasp and pull us into an online world, that is both meaningless and destructive to our health.
According to Internet Live Stats, 40% of the world’s population has access to the internet today. In 1995, this number was less than 1%. The first billion was reached in 2005, the second billion in 2010, and the third billion in 2014. With these overwhelming numbers, it can be presumed that having access to the Internet has never been so easy. In fact, we are so conditioned to this technology that most of our tasks depend on it to be done. Nowadays, most of the school work is done online and when looking for a job a lot of times it is required to be computer savvy. Of course the internet is not all bad, but becoming so dependent on this can surely have severe consequences. CNN released an article evaluating internet addiction. According to this article, “A 2014 study determined that about 16% of 18- to 25-year-olds are involved in compulsive Internet use” (CNN, Adair). Psychologist Catherine Steiner-Adair further explains:
Statistics have shown that an average of six-plus hours are exhausted on media in a single day by the average user. These users’ ages range anywhere from eight to eighteen. This staggeringly steep number is nearly how long kids spend at school everyday, and roughly matches the number of hours spent sleeping each night. Children are being introduced to a vast variety of technologies, like the television and internet, at a startlingly young age. It is crucial for the parent(s) of children to evaluate the adverse effects such exposure may have on their kids, such as a deprivation of sleep or socializing, decrease in mental maturation, or deficient academics. Some may refute that social and other forms of technological media assist the juvenescent crowd in retaining a regular and repetitive routine of communicating with others. Unfortunately, the youth abuses the privilege to obtain and use technology to the point where such neverending utilization serves as a threat...
Although there are many ways to socialize online, the thought of socializing in person is often overlooked due to the internet. Some kids choose to play games on the computer instead of going outside and be fit. According to heartrate.org, “Because of the increasing rates of obesity, unhealthy eating habits and physical inactivity, we may see the first generation that will be less healthy and have a shorter life expectancy than their parents”. This statistic can be very dangerous to the first generation and technology in the long run will no help decrease this chance. In the article, it also discusses the danger of too much technology as well as the positives from
Since the invention of video games and the internet, people of all ages have been addicted to it. Today, they are at their peak, with over 3.2 billion people on the internet or on games every day. It is used to much, especially in school. Kids at school are on electronics all day, playing games or using it to find answers for their work. It is fine, but they use it to much. It distracts them in class, it changes how they behave, and some use it to cheat on work and bully other students.
The rapid growth of technology in our society has become more dominant than it was in the 17th and 18th century. Today, technology is used for almost everything in our day to day lives. But the most common usage of technology is for communication and industrialization. However, every good thing has its disadvantage if it is over used, and since technology has become very dominant, it is used by both young and older people but more predominant among the youth of the today. Even more, technology has brought about social networking such as Facebook, Twitter, my space, piazza.com, instagram, tango, and last but not the least texting. According to socialnetworking.procon.org, “47% of American adults used social networking sites like Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Classmates.com in 2011, up from 26% in 2008. [26] on social media sites like these, users may develop biographical profiles, communicate with friends and strangers, do research, and share thoughts, photos, music, links, and more” (procon.org. 1). Although these sites help many Americans to connect with their family and friends, have we really thought about how these sites are discouraging some students to spend less time with their books, how young adults are losing their marriages, the indecent behavior it is promoting, and how it has escalated texting and driving in our society? Obviously not!
Technology has advance so much since the old days. We see technology everywhere but one major thing that has change since back then into now has been the internet usage. Believe it or not internet is being used everywhere. First, it was used in desktops now is on laptops, cellphones, and tablets and even on TV and Video games. Internet, is very bad for society but three major reasons why is bad is due to many deaths, creating health issues, and bullying.
First and foremost, health problems due to the increase in technology usage is becoming a bigger issue than one might think. With technology becoming a bigger factor in everyday life, diseases and other health issues that used to be less prevalent are now becoming epidemics (Rowan). For example, obesity, which is a condition in which a person is very fat or overweight. Obesity is caused by not getting a proper diet and exercise. Technology is causing this to become an epidemic in children, because children need at least sixty minutes of physical exercise a day and when they are watching TV, on the computer, or playing video games, they are not physically active (Loop). Also, when children are less active and on electronics, they are more likely to eat food that is not healthy for them, such as high calorie junk foods (Martin). With obesity can come many other diseases or health problems. For example, people who are obese are more likely to develop heart problems, diabetes, or high bl...
As I sit here writing this essay and really truly think about technology, it comes to me the vast positives that technology offers. I take for granted the fact that I am sitting here in a room with a television playing, music streaming, and access to more information than I could ever retain. Technological advances in this world have created a place where its inhabitants can be connected at all times to all the other inhabitants. Technology is creating jobs for a great amount of people in many cities all over the world. While some believe that technology is debilitating us as a human race, those thoughts have no credibility. The people that are making those statements making them by posting them on a website using technology. We have surrounded
Technology affects everyone! Whether positive or negative, we are all affected, how it manifests itself into problems for youth will be studied and debated for years. Balancing technology throughout the educational process and keeping with current trends and uses of technology will affect everyone. Technology has transformed our youth’s daily and social lives. How do we measure the effects of technology on our ability to socialize or have a successful social life? Socializing is not just talking face to face, it’s our ability to interact, learn, and create original thought. Technology hindering today’s youth and their ability to socialize is affecting their capacity to read, write, and communicate. Today’s youth depends on careful considerations for the implementation of technologies. Our youth do not have the capability to convey their emotions through the use of technology, understand sadness, happiness or joy through simple text or emails. Communicating through the use of text, chat, and social network sites is lost using abbreviations and slang, inhibiting the use of the Standard English language. Using computers and hand held devices for relationships, reading, writing, and entertainment, turning them into introverted and socially inept individuals. Current trends resonating from our educational institutions to our workplace can be examples of how technology has altered the way younger people communicate. This tragedy transcends from youth to adulthood affecting the workplace. Social networking sites have begun to take hours away from employers. How do students understand ethical and moral dilemmas unless they are allowed to make mistakes and work through a particular problem? Creative and original thought needs...
People can see the many positive effects of technology from different views of human life such as education, agriculture, personal safety, and the environment. But, not everyone considers the downsides while they play Call of Duty and check Facebook for what their friends are doing. Although technology does simplify people’s tasks and duties and make things much easier, it may weaken health, kill environments, and ruin the social, human interactive life that once was.
Change has always been for the better, but when it comes to change in technology; it’s not necessary that the change is going to be good. Technology has been advancing rapidly and is given more importance now than ever before. Every day, technology enhances our modern lifestyle. Although electronics allow us to connect and communicate our ideas with people, they also brainwash us into spending more time using our devices rather than spending quality time with friends and family. It may be hard to believe, but statics show us that almost sixty percent of teens that were surveyed said that they had a slight addiction to the internet and more than forty percent of teens are addicted to their phones. There is no doubt that the internet is very useful, keeping in mind all of its benefits, however its advantages are not the only things we need to focus on. Some of the negative effects internet is leading to are harming us online and in reality. The internet is negatively affecting major parts of our lives, such as affecting us online and in reality, internet becoming an addiction and lastly its negative effect on our culture and religion.
Technology has changed modern society drastically, both positively and negatively. Technology has influenced every aspect of our life, making it simpler but not necessarily better. Albert Einstein was concerned about the advancement of technology. "I fear the day that technology will surpass our human interaction."1 Undoubtedly, what has changed the most are communication, the spread of information, and how business is practiced. Consequently, practically everyone knows how to use a computer, connect to the Internet, or use a smartphone. This is demonstrated by the way the Internet is used daily by millions of people to communicate, to sell, advertise, retrieve, and share information. Thanks to the Internet, information from anywhere in the world is at our fingertips. As a result, the advancement of technology has changed our life in many ways including; sharing of information, communication, business, education, social interaction, simplifying everyday tasks, replacing basic skills and jobs.
Technology addiction is almost similar to drug addiction. Technology is useful in many ways. Using computer, internet, cellphone, television etc. make peoples’ life easier and comfortable. Young people are the most user of it. They cannot think of a single day without use technical device. Tara Parker-Pope is an author of books on health topics and a columnist for the New York Times. In her article , she expressed that, “The International Center for Media and the Public Agenda at the University of Maryland asked 200 students to refrain from using electronic media for a day. The reports from students after the study suggest that giving up technology cold turkey not only makes life logistically difficult, but also changes our ability to connect with others.” ( Parker-Pope, “An Ugly Toll of Technology: Inpatients”). Her point is that, for the young generation it is quite impossible to give up from becoming addict...
