During the Mayor election of Boston on last Tuesday, November 05th there was a referendum about the construction of a casino in East Boston and Revere area. In order to have the license to start the construction of the casino the citizens of both towns had to vote and decide if the project will be aloud. Pro-casino citizens in East Boston where confident they will get more than sixty percent of the votes. The citizens of Revere that agree with the project had a big number of votes in their favor, pro-casino group from Revere stated that they will get at least sixty five percent of the votes. After the Mayor election on last Tuesday and the final count of the votes, the result was not what pro-casino supporters were anticipating. The result in East Boston was fifty six percent against a casino construction and forty four percent in favor of the project. The result in the city of Revere was sixty percent in support and forty percent against. After the official results on that day, a speaker of Suffolk Downs the race track were Caesars entertainments planned to build the casino stated that the results of the referendum were not what they were expecting, and the project at Suffolk Downs could move only to the side of the city of Revere.
The pro-casino group from Revere and East Boston, Caesars entertainments, and powerful politicians including the Mayor of Boston Thomas Menino stated that a construction in the fifty two acres of Suffolk Downs on Revere side is bigger than the two other casinos to be built in western Massachusetts. A casino can bring revenue of thirty two millions dollars to the city in taxes. The project estimated at least a creation of four thousand jobs, and an investment of one billion dollars to build the casi...

...are talking about the impact to democracy. In addition, the original project stated that the horse race track and the park will stay in place, and with the decision to build a casino just in Revere this will not be possible.
There is understandably a tension between supporters and anti-casino groups, but both points of view are understandable. One group points to the benefits of a casino construction and the benefits that this can bring to the city. The anti-casino group focuses on the impacts of a casino in their neighborhood and small business. Each group has their point of view, but they can have a mutual agreement in benefit of the city. One simple solution could be to build the casino outside Boston which they have a place in western Mass. The last word has the State of Massachusetts who gives the casino’s license, but this decision will be on December 31st.
The Committee to Stop Mahwah Mall, a grassroots group of citizens concerned over this perceived miscarriage of justice, formed in response to the rezoning. The Committee worked over the next few months to collect signatures for a petition requesting the Township place a nonbinding referendum on the November ballot. In addition, the Committee raised enough fund in order to retain an attorney, Michael Kates, who filed a lawsuit against the Council on the Committee’s behalf.
Texas inhabitants have decisions of some sort almost every year, and at more than one cases all through the 12 months. all through biennial in vogue races, the gigantic scope of workplaces and submissions brings about phenomenally long tickets. electorate, confronted with tickets loaded down with applicant names and issues unforeseen to them, astonish why they ought to vote.
The second threat is many states are legalizing or planning to legalize commercial casino gambling. Unlike Native American casinos commercial casinos turn over a large share of their profit to the cities and states in taxes.
Gambling... Who does not like to gamble? People play lotteries, bet on sport games or try their luck on slot machines with a thought to win some amount of money. In fact, this excitement for gambling can be seen even from early ages; for example, ancient Egyptians used to play dice in 2000 BC or the first casinos opened their doors to customers during the Greeco-Roman period ( Whittaker and Cushman 1 ). Nowadays casino industry is a large business in the United States that brings high revenues and offers various entertainment that attracts people from different areas. So just recently residents and visitors of Worcester, Wicomico and surrounding counties got a great opportunity to try themselves in a new Ocean Downs casino that came into operation couple months ago. Ocean Downs casino is an excellent benefit to the community that helps to improve the economic and social status of the county and also serves as a great entertainment for the adult population.
For years casino gambling was portrayed in the media and Hollywood as being associated with criminal activities and the mafia. Now with proper scrutiny and government regulations casino gambling has become a lucrative business, with casinos stock even trading on Wall Street. Casino gambling is an ever increasingly popular and legal activity in many states throughout the United States. “The term gambling or ‘gaming’ as the industry calls it, means any legalized form of wagering or betting conducted in a casino, on a riverboat, on an Indian reservation, or at any other location under the jurisdiction of the United States” (National Gambling Impact Study Commission Act). States that allow casino gambling benefit vastly by re-incorporating the taxation off of commerce gained from casinos and tourism associated with the casinos back into the state and local communities. Jobs created by casinos also have a positive impact on the economy in local communities surrounding casinos as well as, the states that legalize gambling. Texas, while allowing horse and dog racing, lottery, and charitable bingo, does not currently prohibit casino gambling. In this essay, I will provide the different reasons the State of Texas will benefit from legalizing casinos gambling. By not having casinos, Texas continues to lose valuable tax revenue that could be awarded to state and local government funded programs for example, education, public safety, economic development, and infrastructure improvements. With the increasing number of legal casinos in bordering states such as Louisiana, New Mexico, and Oklahoma, the loss of tourism and tax revenue is a growing concern for Texas. Passing legislation to allow casinos in the State of Texas will help fund ...

In an effort to provide jobs and reverse the poverty that had long plagued the Coeur d’Alene people, in 1989 tribal member David Matheson started conducting market analyses and feasibility studies for a casino to be built on the reservation. The plan, with approval of the state, was to build a 100,000 square-foot casino and offer both bingo and casino-style gaming.
...way free alcohol which impairs peoples judgement and sense of reality. It is assumed that the more drinks someone has, the more likely it is that they will stay and spend more money. The money spent by the casino on alcohol is more than made up by profits.
In both turnout rate charts, the highest turnout of voters in November happens during Presidential elections. The second highest turnout rate happens during Gubernatorial elections, while the lowest turnout of all the elections happens during special Constitutional elections. Analysis of these rates over the span of 2001 – 2014 shows that more voters participated in Presidential elections. This is also the type of election that is the least frequent of the three election types analyzed. This suggests that voters are more likely to participate in elections that do not happen every year.
In the article “The Lottocracy,” the author Alexander Guerrero makes some bold assessments toward the current system of electing representatives. Alexander Guerrero reflects on the general attitude people have toward voting, analyzes why people vote the way they do and how the system is flawed. It is easy to fall into a state of thinking that one vote does not make a difference when one considers that there is little difference between the candidates. Ethos, pathos, and logos are present throughout the article to persuade and convince the audience of how flawed the current system. Guerrero appeals to his reader’s sense of logic by using examples of statistical analysis that outlines the demographics of those who are currently serving in elected
The Gambling industry attempts to win support with misleading information in its promotions. For example, gambling is said to help stimulate the economy by providing more jobs. According to the American Gaming Association study, "In 1995, the casino industry recorded $25 billion . . . and paid only $7 billion in wages" (Arthur Anderson). Also according to Maura J. Casey, there is high unemployment rates around casinos. (Casey 37) With people's losses and by encouraging workers to believe in cheating customers, casinos focus on gaining more and more money for their n...

The first vulnerable would be the public opinion for and against the proposal land usage. The Great Transformation From A Casino City To a Resort Destination Atlantic City is the place to gamble on the East Coast. Although this may initially seem to be a positive characteristic, it is evident that this destination has the capability to be so much more than it already is. This point of interest has the world’s first boardwalk, which opened in 1881, has 4 miles of hotels, amusements, and casinos. Atlantic City was originally a resort town, until 1978, when it changed into a gaming city. This popular day-trip destination had over 34 million visitors in 1998 alone. Despite this amazing statistic, along with the revenue that gambling brings in, many steps are being taken in order to further promote the expansion of this great city. The renovations and improvements being made to the Atlantic City Convention Center are already increasing the amount of money coming in. There is a great deal of other things to focus on in the Atlantic City region. In endorsing local attractions in this scenic area, and in shifting the target market of this spot, this city would change back into a resort destination. When most people think of Atlantic City, the first thing that comes to mind is the casino attractions that are available. With the city’s constant shuffle and excitement, gamblers from all over go there dreaming of a big win. Many people consider Atlantic City to be the “Las Vegas of the East Coast”. There are over 12 casinos, with one building as magnificent as the next. At any given second of the day, these hopefuls may have their lives changed in an instant with just one win. These casino hotels gain most of their income from gamblers. Casinos employ almost 49,000 people every year. This number should actually jump when the Marina District opens. Although Atlantic City prospers as a gambler’s paradise, many would love to show others just how much more Atlantic City really has to offer its tourists. The Atlantic City Convention Center, built in 1929, was renovated with $72 million in 1997. With the world’s largest pipe organ, everyone from the Beatles to Pavarotti has played there. It was designated a historic landmark in 1987. Conventions, trade shows, meetings, and public events of the greater Atlantic City area all take place here. When the renovation is finally completed, it will seat up to 12,000 people for special events.
I think that if the three solutions I provided are carried out, it will make a great impact on the rising gambling addiction rate. Spending extra revenue from states that have legalized gambling to fund enough addiction clinics and programs to meet each state’s need is the first step toward decreasing addiction rates. The second step is voting to pass more ordinance and restriction laws so the gambling industry will not expand out of control and children will not have easy access to gambling machines. I think if “we” as a community work together toward getting our state government to adopt the ideas in the solutions I provided, we can set an example for other communities and in the future lower addiction rates instead of quietly allowing them to increase.
