Tracing Egypt’s origin to the intermarriages of ancient Egyptians with invaders over countries of Asia and Africa. Egyptian culture flourished between 5500 BCE with the rise of technology and 30 BCE with the death of Cleopatra VII, who was the last Ptolemaic ruler. Egypt is located on the Nile River. It begins in the Highlands of Ethiopia with two other branches, the Blue Nile and the White Nile. The Egyptians depended greatly on the Nile River to survive. Every spring the river would flood and produce rich soil. The soil around the Nile was black land and the desert side was called the red land. It was the only source of water in Egypt. The economy in Egypt, bisected by Nile valley, where most economic activity occurs involving agriculture products. For example, like cotton, rice, corn, wheat, beans, fruits, vegetables, cattle, water buffalo, sheep, and goats. The Industries include textiles, food processing, tourism, pharmaceuticals, and construction. Egyptians had a great passion for life and a great love for their land. Field hockey was played with palm tree sticks and they used papyrus as a ball. Tug of war is a popular sport that is played in the U.S. with a rope. Players from both teams pulls on the rope and pulls the other team across. Ancient Egypt played tug of war different than the U.S. players would pull each other arms at the front of the line and the rest of the team players would grab the person waist in front of them. Hunting and Fishing was another sport in Egypt. Fish were caught from the Nile river. Egyptians used nets, fence traps and baskets to catch fish instead of using a fishing pole with hooks.
