Egoism Egoism is about ones’ goal to benefit the most for themselves over others. It is about achieving an end result that will maximize their profit and welfare. There are three different types of egoism: psychological egoism, ethical egoism, and rational egoism. Psychological egoism, ethical egoism and rational egoism is similar in that they are all about getting the best outcome for themselves. I am against egoism because I see it as a flawed philosophy where the egoist will try to get the most amount of profit even though it may be selfish. I am against egoism because it is flawed in many ways and promotes selfishness towards other people for their own desires. Egoists look for opportunities to gain profit such as helping others but A problem with rational egoism is that the choices that are made are random. An egoist can make a claim that is random because he or she provides no reason why that claim was made. There only reason for it is that it allows them to follow their own self-interest and nets them the maximum profit. The claim would be a selfish claim to give the egoist the advantage over others. Another problem is the contradiction that believing in something to be true does not make it true like how believe in rational egoism to be true is necessarily not true. Just believing something to be true does not justify a claim to be It means that taking the time to help other people will actually make the problem worse due to the fact that the person that wants to help is not well prepared and not have enough knowledge to help the other person. The person that is being helped may also not want help or have pride. In turn, the idea and claims of altruism collapses on itself because the whole point of it is to help others to be a good-willed person but will ultimately hurt the person they are trying to help. This has problems though because some people are willing to receive help from others and do not take it as an insult. For example, some elderly may want the help in crossing the street and do not think that the help is directly making fun of their
