Enjoyable pastimes come in two forms, indoor and outdoor. Both indoor and outdoor have nearly endless possibilities of things to do. A survey on how much people play outside now versus how much people did 30 years ago found that 50 percent of the adults asked had played outside at least seven times a week while growing up, now only 23 percent of kids play outside. Only recently have kids, teenagers, and adults alike broadened our scope of indoor activities. Outdoor activities have remained the same for centuries. Recently indoor activities have become far more enjoyable, the most favored types of indoor activities are electronics, board games, and it is fun because anyone can participate.

The first television was invented in 1927, critics said that nobody would have enough time to sit and watch television during daily life and the invention would grow obsolete. Now people laugh at that projection while the average American watches 34 hours of television per week. The final indoor technology is music, it is nearly impossible to create music outside because of all the background noises. Many songwriters do admit to being outside while writing music, saying that they feel more inspired outside. However, no music is composed outside, having an enclosed soundproof area is a necessity.
Another amazing indoor activity is board games. Having family game night at least once a month is amazing bonding time. Although while you are playing some games relationships are tested. The most popular board game is chess. Chess is a game that can never be mastered, and takes a very long time to get good at. Chess masters can play a single game for hours testing each others minds to the

From young to old in most cases anybody can gather together for a fun activity. Many outdoor activities can not be done by the young or elderly, many more limitations are set on them because of their mental capacity or physique. While children still may not be able to do everything inside they could at least sit, watch, and learn. Whereas if a child wanted to do something outside and the child was just too small the only factor stopping them is time. Staying indoors is obviously more safe then being outdoors, not saying that going outside is dangerous, but weather can be very unpredictable at times.
Heat and cold is a large factor of weather or not children, or elderly can go outside. Indoor activities are good for any age group in summer because it can get too hot outside, this is especially challenging for older people because they are more susceptible to heat stroke, and other heat related illnesses. The cold can also be harmful and in worst scenarios cause frostbite, or other serious
Obviously the television isn't a new technological development; it's been around since at least the turn of the 1920’s and was readily available for public sale by the late 1930’s (Stephens). After the Second World War, the television expanded with its introduction into the commercial mainstream, and by 1955 it was estimated that roughly half of all American homes had at least one (Stephens). Although certainly impressive, this statistic would only continue to burgeon throughout the decades with the rise of color TV and cable b...

Let’s enjoy spending time with our loved ones outdoors and connect with nature, because connecting with nature it is the only form of life keeping us alive and healthy.
Our engagements at work, school, and sports seem to take precedence over quality family time. In what little free time we have, we just sit alone in separate rooms, staring at our individual screens. Playing board games is one of the few times that we all sit down together as a family and just enjoy each others’ company.
As a child going outside was something that excited you. The freedom of running through the grass or climbing the trees was something that always excited you. As times change and technology improves going outside is not a happy thought anymore. In John Stilgoe’s Outside Lies Magic and Rachel Carson’s The Sense of Wonder, they both discuss the feelings you get while going outside and the importance why we should go outside. Though both have different reasons why we should both books are relevant to today.
The organizations provides fun and creative activities while also teaching people conflict resolution, leadership, teamwork, bonding, and confidence skills. Adolescence is a transitional period in life and is marked by changes and uncertainty. Even if an adolescent isn’t going through a crisis or a hard time, it would still be fun to take outdoor educations courses compared to standard high school or college courses.
Today, kids have forgotten what it is to play a catch or another outdoor activity, because of the electronics that they are using. For example, kids prefer playing video games like Halo or Call of Duty, watching TV or just being on social network, instead of going playing on the playground or in some other place with other kids.
Margaret McMillan was a scholar who studied subjects like outdoor play. She had many beliefs plus theories on how this would benefit a child mentally and physically. One of her beliefs was that outdoor play could improve a child’s health. In theory she believes it means mentally and physically, as it keeps a child fit and strong furthermore, provides them with many opportunities.
"Today, in the United States, 91% of children between the ages of 2 and 17 play videogames, and a nationally representative study of U.S. teenagers found that up to 99% of boys and 94% of girls play these games" (Granic, Label and Engels 1). Video games have become virtually ubiquitous, belonging to almost every single modern day family. The market’s popularity, as well as its disapproval, has increased dramatically ever since they were invented. Many critics have been arguing for the past couple decades or so that these electronic games have destroyed the lives of children by making them sedentary and obese. However, recent studies support that video games are not harming children, but in fact are providing them with several benefits that they can incorporate in their everyday lives. Improvements have been found in cognition, social behaviors, emotional well-being, and many other areas that are necessary for a child’s growth and success. All children should use video games as an essential tool to make their worlds easier and more understandable.
The video gaming industry is a huge successful business and very popular around the world. Parks stated that “In 2006 worldwide spending on video games was more than 31 billion. In the United States more than 7.4 billion was spent on video games almost triple the sales of 1996.” Many different gaming consoles have been created as technology has advanced. Today's games can be very realistic and appeal to a variety of people. Video games allure to almost anyone and are available to play for most people around the world. People who regularly engage in video games are called gamers. Children as young as two years old can play some sorts of games such as Leapfrog gaming systems. Before television existed people had to depend on Radio stations to receive their little bit of entertainment and news. But in 1878, the invention of TV began. The first TV made didn’t look anything like the way TV’s look today. It was a mechanical camera with a large spinning disc attached to it (Kids Work). But as over the years, of course, inventions of different TV’s progressed and by the 20th century about 90 percent of our population had a TV in their household (MGHR). Television today is mainly used for people take a break from their life by relaxing and enjoying some entertainment.
In my opinion the outdoor area in any setting is often the childrens’ favourite place to be, as all the natural features engage children’s senses and provide opportunities for hands on learning. By letting children play with sticks, climb trees and roll around on the ground children develop physically and mentally. This is an area where there is often greater freedom and scope to investigate their surroundings and whilst there is exploration there is also very good opportunity to develop gross motor skills through physical activity. Such activities also spark their imaginations (Cooper, a

Before smartphones, what did children do for fun? Kids used to spend their free time playing outdoors with their friends. This is where children learned to interact with others. They made friends, and used their imagination to have fun. Children didn’t require devices to stay entertained, they had to have fun with others.
