Videogames and Violence
One such critical view on video games is that it has caused an increase of violence and a desensitization of said violence in children. According to Nauert (2006) researchers at Iowa State University have performed studies on this in 2006 and concluded that compared to other forms of media “Several features of violent video games suggest that they may have even more pronounced effects on users than violent television programs and films.” Yet a more recent study in 2011 has shown “People who play video games do not differ in memory and physical arousal was not different between games and non-gamers. And there was no difference in how each group felt after seeing negative or violent images” (Bowen, 2011). As it currently stands investigations and experiments are still being done on the subject. But parents of children need not worry as long as they take into account what it is their kids are doing. This is because the only way for a child to obtain a video game with excessive violence is to have a valid ID with proof they are above 17.

Yet they still continue to show it as they do Poker and other games many people enjoy and practice.
In conclusion video games have affected us in a greater ay than people may think. Books have spawned as have movies and even television shows. It is not something one should dissmiss as a simple hobbby without realizing how much goes into and comes out of gaming. A lot of people dedicate themselves to get their visions out there and for us to see them. A artistic experience one can interact with and shape. Whether used for recreation, education, or even for money there is something for everyone in videogames.
