Video game effects are relatively new in modern society. Even though these games are often entertaining, the content of the game has been increasingly more and more violent as technology becomes more prevalent. The popularity of violent video games has caused an increase in controversy. Parents and experts feel that some games are just too violent and they demand the government to regulate the sales of these games. However, violent video games do not cause an increase in aggression, in adolescents. The forceful plan by the government is caused by an exaggeration of the effects of violent video games and this plan are indeed pointless.
Besides the violent contents, video games have several positive aspects. Video games can push children's competence to the limit by forcing them to master certain ability to overcome the obstacles in the level. For example, "Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six" series have become one of the games that requires intense dedication and concentration. The player acts as the leader of an elite anti-terrorist squad consisting of three or four members. At the beginning of the game, players can choose how to infiltrate the terrorist compound, either by planting an explosive on the door, using a fast rope from the rooftop or simply breaching into several doors to create a surprise assault. These options will ignite the sense of logical thinking and strategy formations in which formal education does not offer.
Aside from the cognitive aspects, video games are also the tool of social interactions. Friendships can sometimes be developed through playing video games and ultimately keeping them away from drug usage and violent activities. Most of the video games today have either multiplayer or online capabilities or even ...

...o play a huge role in personality of a person. Some person might have a tendency to be more rebellious and aggressive. Moreover, easier access to firearms in several countries can lead to violent thoughts and behaviors. Guns can act as a stimulus because it reminds the person of aggressive behaviors seen on television or maybe in real life. If the person does not have a solid self-control, it can lead him to a violent behavior. Self-control is one of the main aspects because no matter how many violent stimuli in the environment are, self-control can suppress one's violent and aggressive thoughts.
Video games, in conclusion, are not harmful for young adults. The theories behind all the selfish acts should not have been led to video games. These games are good for young adults and can help development. Do you want to prohibit your child from learning lifelong skills?
The first point that needs to be addressed is how video games are used for training purposes. Video games are used by the United States Army to train soldiers (Suellentrop). America’s Army helps the soldiers develop their fighting skills (Suellentrop). This video game also helps to teach soldiers how to learn to function as a team (Suellentrop). Along with the Army, video games train individuals how to respond in emergency situations (Issitt). Video games train people in many ways, even if it is unknown to many people how important they can be to society.
Since the 1970 video games have become more popular than ever before. Generating 11.7 billions of dollars of sells every year or more, the video game industry is considered one of the largest industries in this century. However, video games have been a topic of controversy. With the sales of violent video games going up and the increased violence in schools and teenagers, video games are always to blame. Many people speculate that video games are the cause on why many teenagers have developed aggressive and violent behavior, are desensitize to violence, and the increase violence in schools and public places. In contradiction, video games have little or no fault in teenagers’ violent behavior and shouldn’t always be blamed.
Many kids like Tommy, who spend most of their childhood and adolescences emerged in imaginary lands rather than dealing with the real world at hand, become socially anxious and have low self-esteem later in life. Instead of thriving with a career and family, they relapse back to the same virtual interaction they had as a child. They float through life barely able to support themselves or result to living with their parents. Adulthood seems to them a mere task they must complete in order to continue their gaming. Excessive videogame play for children and adolescents cause social anxiety, depression, and aggression because more time is spent alone engrossed in dynamic storylines and complex situations than outside building face-to-face relationships and other healthy social skills that better prepare them for their future.
This debate is increasingly important in today’s society because of the recent gun control debates in response to recent mass shootings -- is it the guns that spark violence, an outside force, or nothing at all? Due to the desensitization that occurs, the encouragement and rewards that video games give, and simulation that triggers real-life behavior, video games cause violence.
There are two types of skills that adolescents are able to obtain by playing video games. The first skill one acquires is increased problem solving skills regarding decision-making. In Malcolm Gladwell’s article Brain Candy, he writes that players “have to craft a longer-term strategy” in order to win the game that one is playing (Source D). This forces one to make quick decisions that will benefit them in the game, thus, improving their problem solving abilities. Not only does quick thinking allow one to take an effective approach in regards to solving problems and making decisions, it teaches creative ways to approach various obstacles. According to the article Video games can make us creative if spark is right published on e! Science News in 2008, “high or low arousal is key to creativity” (Source C). Playing video games increase the players’ “degree of arousal and positive mood,” thus, raising the players’ ability to develop more creative and resourceful strategies (Source C). Depending on the players’ mind-set, whether optimistic or pessimistic, they always find new ways to solve problems as a result of playing video games. Those who possess a positive attitude tend to consistently support their decisions because they are constantly encouraging themselves. On the contrary, those with a negative attitude make decisions by analyzing the situation. This is because an unenthusiastic attitude brings out a more competitive...

Video games have become a part of our culture in America as well as around the world. There are a large variety of video games to be played such as sports, non-violent, and violent games. The most dominant genre of video games that out-sells all others is the violent video game. It is hard to explain why they outsell all the other genres, but one reason may be because they allow users to turn their aggression into something simple which may result in less anger for that person. Video games have more recently started to be used as recruitment tools for branches of the United States Military with games such as “America’s Army.” One of the most popular video games of all time was Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3. Despite being one of the most violent video games ever, it sold a record numbers.
There have been many big controversies over videogames but the biggest controversy is violence in video games. Many parents believe that video games will corrupt their children's minds. Thats not always true because many kids can play a game knowing the difference between reality and imagination. Children learn a lot from their parents so if parents tell the kids before they buy them a game that it is reality and that they should never do it. In recent studies by American Psychological Association (APA) and Brown University that violent video games like shooters can boost children's learning, health, and social skills (washingtonpost). Many parents tell their kids “playing video games will rot your brain.” This is not true because APA researched and tested out kids playing violent video games and found that kids who play violent video games can improve a range of cognitive skills in their abilities ( Washington Post). Since the Early 70’s video games have been giving a bad name. Parents state that video games rot the minds of children and are influencing them do be violent. These accusations are far from the truth. In my research I found that there are many positive effects of gaming. Some of these effects are increased skills, creativity, general knowledge, and also help those in need. Parents can also take proper precautions and look into a game before buying it to see if it meets the criteria discussed in this paper.
Nowadays, video games are frequently accused of having detrimental effects on children and adolescents. The main arguments against video games are that they lead to addiction, that they provoke violence, and that they impair social development. Whether or not such claims are true has not been determined with certainty as scientific studies have produced contradictory results. Nevertheless, video games also have beneficial effects, which tend to be underrated, as they do not receive the same level of media coverage that adverse ones do, and are thus unknown to the general public. Some of the positive effects of playing video games on mental development include: stimulating analytical thinking, improving concentration, and encouraging planning and anticipation (“Video game controversies”).
In America 81% of the youth plays anywhere from 13 to 14 hours of video games on average per week . 8.5% of them are addicted. A teenager playing video games can seem pretty normal but, have you ever questioned if video games can have an effect on the youth. such as Behavioral or Mental effects? Maybe this question hasn 't even crossed your mind. but know this question might be answered. I have been doing research and And looking for facts that can give me evidence on how playing video games can have a negative effect on the youth or anybody that plays video games really, but mainly the youth. I have made the young kids my main focus because I am extremely interested in learning whether these violent video games have an effect on them because
The experience of game play can be described as an activity in which the player is virtually embodied in the game world. Anyone who has experienced the world of gaming knows how the engaging experience can manifest itself with “sweaty palms and chills down the spine” (http://www.eludamos.org/index.php/eludamos/article/viewArticle/80/147) when coming face-to-face with alien creatures; or with the adrenaline rush we get when racing a high speed automobile head-to-head with a friend. Gaming is an excellent source of entertainment. It provides an opportunity for social growth, provides a meaningful form of exploring expression, and provides heightened sensitivity.
The question is, “Do violent video games influence children to act aggressively?” and “Can repetitive killing train a person to be violent himself?” Although the violence in these video games is fictional, research has proven the violence to lead to more aggressive behavior in children. Violent acts depicted in these games allow young children to believe that killing and fighting is acceptable and fun.
Violent video games are special games, which negatively influences to the attitude and behavior. These video games are popular between children and teenagers. Since 1980-s years violent games are in political discussion. Because when teenagers usually play violent video games, they are becoming aggressive and then they face with psychological problems. For this, some people claim that violent games are harmful for society and they affect to behavior and health.
Yet many people are concerned how this impacts there social skills the everyday face to face contact. When playing video games people limit their self’s to social interaction unless it has to do with the game, a lot of people play online and talk to their friends through a headset. When people have face to face contact they develop skills in learning how to communicate with people and eye to eye contact you don’t get that through a video game. Being in a social environment promotes social skills. A social environment can provide opportunities for one to learn how to behave properly in different situations. When playing video games most of the time the person is alone and confined in room. Meaning there is very little social interaction between the person and the game. When people play video games they play in sessions and they can last a long time even all night. People get so wrapped up in playing these games they blow off their friends and family meaning it’s hard to maintain social relationships.
