TV and children: The impact it has on one another, why it could be beneficial or disastrous, and why we should filter our children
Let 's face it, we all know that children are like sponges; they tend to absorb whatever they hear, tasteful or terrible. I stand sure we have all seen an alteration in a child 's behavior after he or she has continuously watched a television series or episode, whether it be slang the show utilizes or perhaps the actions. Maybe it was a good alteration or possibly a ruinous alteration. The key to make sure children will utilize and receive beneficial views is to filter what they are watching at all times. No one wants their child walking around using foul language, it’s more embarrassing than it is funny to a parent.
Uniquely, between birth and 3 years of age, the human brain increases to 80% of its adult size. As long as there is language in the child’s environment, they will learn it without being explicitly “taught”. “During their preschool years, children acquire on average 4-8 new words every day! This means that by the time they are 6 years old they can have a vocabulary of 8,000-14,000 words.” (Polloni). An assumption can undoubtedly be asserted that children are most definitely like sponges. Views that can appear on TV while a child is watching can either be beneficial or disastrous to what child absorbs.
To illustrate why it could be beneficial or disastrous, I have a few examples. Let’s say a child watched a movie like The Hangover, that exhibited foul language and crude violence; he or she then begins to say these foul words or preform heinous acts of violence they just learned, not knowing any better of course. Now it is going to take some time to explain to a child why he or she can’t s...

We as peers and parents need to do as much as we can to filter our child’s views as early on and as long as we can. It is crucial in the early stages of development to do so. We ought to take control, so that our children are getting the utmost beneficial views and not learning foul acts and language. But we also should be obliged to teach our children why they can’t view such things, so they have a better understanding. Taking it away with no explanation, just raises rebellion of a child to extend secretly find what they would like to view.
The key to doing so, set up as numerous parental blockers on all devices that we can, and check a child’s phone regularly. Filtering what our children view is the best way to keep a child safe. Saving a child from exhibiting foul behavior saves us all from the embarrassment as a parent in the long run.
