Unsafe Drivers Getting behind the wheel, may seem simple and easy to learn, but can have life changing results if one is not careful.Everyday a teen learns how to drive. Many people think that teens are simply not ready or do not have the capabilities to handle driving.“In 2012, 60 percent of deaths among passenger vehicle occupants ages 16-19 were drivers.” (Teen Driving Statistics) The teen driving age should be increased in all 50 states. Additionally, as older adults begin to grow in age they begin to become dangerous. Older adults age 60 and up should have to retake their driving test to prove that they still acquire the skills needed to drive. Teen drivers are thought of as being reckless, incompetent, and unprepared. One of the main issues today is unsafe driving.Statistics have proven that teen drivers may not be experienced enough to handle everyday driving. The leading cause of fatalities in teens is automobile accidents. This is a major problem among teens today. According to statistics collected by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, “In 2013, 2,163 teens in the United States ages 16–19 were killed and 243,243 were treated in emergency departments for injuries suffered in motor vehicle crashes.” Although, this number seems low the CDC presents this statistic in an alternative statistic. “ That means that six teens ages 16–19 died every day from motor …show more content…

Research has proven that teens are not mentally ready for driving at a young age. “New findings from brain researchers at the National Institutes of Health explain for the first time why efforts to protect the youngest drivers usually fail. The weak link: what 's called "the executive branch" of the teen brain — the part that weighs risks, makes judgments and controls impulsive behavior”(Davis 2).
