The implementation of the tools should not happen all at once; that will burden the student and be ineffective. The introduction of new tools should be gradual and start with the low tech and transition to the higher tech, if necessary. Starting with low assistive technology is cost effective and easier to implement. Intricate, advance tools should be used if the student lacks improvement in their area of need after using the simple to moderate aids. When and where the tools are implemented is another factor to consider. The Special Ed. teacher can collect data through work samples, curriculum-based measurements, and observations. With low tech tools, the teacher can use the strategies mentioned to gauge if the tools are benefiting the student. These methods of collecting data can work with the medium and high tech tools. After the student has been efficiently using the tool for a sufficient amount of time, the Special Ed. teacher can collect data to see if the student’s comprehension skills have improved. In order to implement the next level of tools, the teacher should evaluate the level of success the previous tools have made or not made. Through evaluation, the teachers can potentially see where the student continues to struggle, whether it is with vocabulary, finding the theme, connecting character relationships, or anything else that deals with comprehension. If the implementation of the tool can be adjusted rather than moving into the next category of assistive technology, the teacher should do so. For example, the graphic organizers come in different forms, shapes, and colors.
