Being Active, and Going Outside Can Reduce Stress in College Students College can be a stressful time in any young adult 's life. Trying to juggle family, friends, and school work, while trying to figure out the rest of a person life can bring on anxiety. Anxiety can be brought on by nervousness, apprehension, worry, or an unsettling feeling one may have. Everyone experiences anxiety in their lifetime, today there are nearly three million cases reported per year. Whether it has to do with paying the bills on time, a big exam coming up, or even making an appointment. Sometimes I slack off because I feel my bed has never felt more comfortable as I eat junk food and watch Netflix. But, I have learned however that going to the gym and being active, can help lower my anxiety. So I try and go every day, and advise my friends and fellow peers to do the same if they are feeling stressed out or anxious over a certain situation. When exercising your body, “ produces endorphins—chemicals in the brain that act as natural painkillers—and also improve the ability to sleep, which in turn reduces stress” (Physical Activity Reduces Stress). Studies have even suggested that taking a 10-minute walk can help alleviate anxiety, much like taking an aspirin for a headache. By exercising on a regular basis it allows many an outlet or a way to cope with the stress, and anxiety one may have. I personally have experienced a great amount of relief when I choose to go to the gym, take a run, or even a walk with my dog. It not only gets my endorphins pumping, but it gives me time to think and realize that things are going to be ok in the end. I have also found that being outdoors, is a great way to reduce my
