The growing absence of God in all that Americans do has proven that life without Him can be detrimental to the people’s health. Once upon a time, this great nation put God before self and others. America has been instituted on the belief and trust in God. The Declaration of Independence mentioned God 4 times. Even the nation’s 1st president, George Washington said “Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable.” But over time so many have taken God for granted by doing the exact opposite of what pleases Him, creating a void which subsequently cause many social issues for many Americans. These issues that affect society will in turn likewise affect the Marine Corps. Social issues that plague this nation such as social media, drug abuse and suicide will continue to spiral out of control and only get worse with the absence of God.
Social media such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to name a few, have taken over the attention of so many Americans over the past few years. says that in 2008 only 24% of the U.S. population had a social media profile, but has increased to over 78% today. Yes, technology definitely continues to advance with computers, smartphones and other various devices. But these sorts of advancements in technology continue to disconnect people from family and friends. According to Americans spend over 4 hours total on social media each day. That is a 3rd of the time a person is awake, considering we sleep for an average of 8 hours each day. This time vested in social media creates a distance from not only God, but any other relationship between family and love ones. These are relationships that a Marine should have and...

“Indispensable” was the word George Washington used when expressing his beliefs and wishes for this nation with regards to continued political prosperity and grace. The first president, along with Samuel Adams, John Hancock, Benjamin Rush and many others, all exalted the Lord. But because of the continual disdain for God, the American society will drift even farther from His graces. And the issues that plague this nation such as social media, drug abuse and suicide will continue to spiral out of control and only get worse with the absence of God. To conclude, here is a quote from Thomas Jefferson: “God who gave us life gave us liberty. Can the liberties of a nation be secure when we have removed a conviction that these liberties are the gift from God? Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just, that His justice cannot sleep forever.”
