The effects of the social media on the individuals and the societies has been a remarkable controversial debate over the past decade. In fact, social media has become inseparable part of our lives. It is not a new thing and has various forms. It emerged in the late seventies and the early eighties with the emergence of USENET, Bulletin Board System, AOL, etc. In around 1994, private internet service providers came with new technology revolution in the major cities of the USA. This gave a golden chance to the millions of people to come online and gave them the access to the internet. This era was the dawn of the social media. In the same way social media has several flaws too. There are various disadvantages of the social media. In contrast to its major advantage of worldwide connectivity, it reduces or eliminates the face to face socialization and social isolation. People are spending most of their time on social media now. They have no time for face to face interaction. Nowadays, everybody is spending their maximum time on the social media which results into minimum face-to-face interaction. This ultimate leads to the loss of old relationships. According to the various scientific researches and studies conducted by various agencies, it has been proved that the excessive use of the social media can lead to a host of mental, psychological, emotional and physical problems including depression, anxiety, somatic complaints and many others. In fact, a research was conducted by the University of Illinois at Chicago School of Medicine animal study, which showed social isolation impaired brain hormones, which is the likely reason socially isolated people experience tremendous levels of stress, aggression, anxiety and other mental issues.
