In today’s society, all adolescents communicate and find out the latest gossip that is trending through social media. Since the introduction of the internet people always tried to find a way to communicate with people around the world, nowadays people connect through the likes of Facebook and Twitter. There is a plethora of negative causes of social media on the lives of the youth being cyber bullying, addiction, and not being aware of the privacy terms.
Cyber bullying is a new type of bullying; it is when someone is harassing another person through the internet and abusing them verbally. Cyber bullying causes suicides “Cyberbullying has also been the cause of many suicides in young people” (Barnes and Laird). Teenagers are not aware when they are cyber bullying, they may act like they are playing around and take it as a joke, but they don’t think of the victim and what is going through their mind, The victim might take it to things serious and hurt themselves and especially if they are being bullied or criticized by someone who is well known in school. Many cases have been reported of teenagers killing themselves because they were being harassed through social media. Also, cyber bullying causes depression in young adults, says Kowalski, “… cyberbullying is also a problem and can leave victims experiencing depression…”(Barnes and Laird). Victims are left with a feeling that they aren’t good enough and become depressed with themselves because the constant bullying they receive.
Secondly, multiple adolescents are not aware or alerted that they might have an addiction to social media. Many times these teenagers of this generation spend most of their time scrolling through their phone looking at statuses of people they might know a...

Today, roughly two billion computers and two billion phones are in use (Mathews). With this, come almost four billion people with the opportunity to use the internet and to connect to social media. Linda Ogbevoen states that “with digital media’s increase in functionality and decrease in price, more and more rely on digital media for work, play, and socializing.” Over the past decade social media has become more and more popular, thus causing it to become part of people’s everyday lives. Along with the widespread of technology today, various people of all ages throughout the world have started to log onto social media sites. The most prominent users of social media have been shown to be adolescents. As a result of the excessive use of social media, adolescents have encountered problems such as internet bullying (“cyberbullying”), privacy concerns, and internet addiction.
All in all, adolescents can severely be harmed when they use social media. The negative impacts of social media include causing children to lack face-to-face communications, be absent from indispensable experiences, and undergo emotional suffering. All of these effects of social media would make the lives of children difficult. Since using social media is such an unhealthy activity, we all should reduce our time using it and spend more time in the real world. If we do so, we may have a brighter
“What is interesting is the power and the impact of social media... So we must try to use social media in a good way.”(Yousafzai) Many believe that the negative use of social media is one of the major problems not only in America but in the world. When social media is overused or not properly used, problems can occur for a person no matter the age or socioeconomic class. One of today’s major issues is teenagers and their use of social media.

To begin with there are many bullies out in the world, but many of these same bullies are finding a new way to target children and teens, and this is through social media. Social media has become a way to influence suicidal behaviors because of cyberbullying. Cyber bullying is “when a child is intentionally and repeatedly targeted by another child or teen in the form of threats or harassment.” Experiments showed that victims of cyber bullying are twice as likely to attempt suicide than people who were not. (Luxton 3). Cyberbullying should be taken very seriously because of the horrible outcomes it might just bring. One of these outcomes is suicide. Suicide is something nobody should ever have to even think about, and the fact that many more children and teens are thinking about suicide is disgusting. Not only can the child be suffering from this online predator, but these children have family too. Social media has become more of a weapon to bullies, according to Nirvi Shah. When asked what she feels like cyberbullying on social ne...
Social media has some positive effects that everyone can benefit from especially teens and preteens. But it also has negative ones that are very dangerous and should not be taken lightly. It poses a great threat to the mental and physical health of youth. The most serious threat is cyberbullying and teens and preteens should be wary of this relatively new form of bullying. They should use caution when deciding to say or post something online and think about who may see it and who it may affect. Social media is not entirely harmful, but the aspects and capabilities of it can have devastating effects on youth.

Have you ever thought how harmful social media is for kids and the parents? Ellen Goodman’s essay “Family Counterculture” has a message in which she calls todays culture “an increasingly hostile environment” for kids. Her claim is not only well explained and backed up with proof but plenty of parents that I know have said the something or something similar about social media. Social media can lead to many unpleasant things that can cause a parent to frustrate, it can cause their kids to pick up bad habits, can cause kids to be depressed, and cause kids to be brainwashed by ads. Because kids in this generation over use social media it creates many problems for them and their parents. Social media can be used for good things but in this generation,
In today’s society, much advancement has been made throughout the universe. However, one that seems to stand out in particular is the use of social media. Social media has both positive and negative effects on society. This advancement has led to a difference in communication to everyone by reconnecting with others, or even informing the public nationwide through televisions such as the news or talk shows. However, is social media safe to use? Social media has a great impact on everyone in society. While allowing your children or teenagers to engage in social media a few things to consider are the risks of youth using social media, what age is too young, and also how social media is useful in some cases. Children participate in cyber bullying now and even find themselves involved in bad habits, such as sexting (Schurgin O’Keefe). According to a recent poll conducted, over 22 percent of teenagers log onto their social media site more than ten times a day (Schurgin O’Keefe). Not everything is negative towards social media, but there are precautions that need to be taken when there is the youth involved.

We live in a world that has become addicted and dedicated toward social media and it is driving America’s youth into the ground. Teenagers and adults are so wrapped up in social media that is runs their lives every day. Constantly people are checking their phones for the latest on social networks. They have to see pictures, tweets, statuses, comments, likes, and the list goes on and on. Social media is becoming the focus point in the modern American society that it is beginning to control people’s social skills, communication skills, and their livelihood.
Social media has only been easily accessible on our decade, but has boomed in popularity and user use. It has taken over our society and culture providing a new channel to connect with the world in real-time. While, social media has many advantages -- especially in providing resources and knowledge to the public, it has many downsides as well, including not providing enough protection for our youths. As such, we see the rise of addiction to social media, cyberbullying, and negative body images. We need to push our government, schools, and families to educate our youth on internet usage. With technology’s increasing growth rate and that fact that technology will be our future, it is pertinent to teach our children how to use social media in a responsible manner.
There has been controversy as to whether parents should limit the use of social media by teenagers. Teenagers feel that there is no need to limit the use of their social media networking, but on the other hand parents should feel the need to limit their use and also keep track of their teen’s social networking. Social media has allowed to be connected with their peers, teens who post positive status are more likely to be involved in extracurricular activities, and to many teens putting up “selfies” is a self confidence boost; however, too much social media can affect students GPA in school, cyber bulling can affect social health. Social media networks can give out personal information.
In the twenty -first century, teenagers live in a life of social networking and life’s online. It’s hard to believe how much the world has changed over the decades, especially in technology. Technology helps people to contact relatives and friends from long distance more easily and conveniently. People can now talk to each other from everywhere in the world simply through chat and video calls. By time, internet connections have spread throughout households and social networking such as Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, and Instagram has increased gradually. However, the internet and several modern technologies have wasted many times and has hurt the society. Social media plays such a big role in people’s lives that some people couldn’t even imagine
