The environment is being destroyed in various ways. Humans are using and doing things that are harmful to the environment. Things such as: driving, which is polluting the air, using an excessive amount of paper, which is killing all of the trees and forests, and population growth, which is causing the use of natural resources to increase. All of these things are being done at an excessive rate and are damaging the environment more than a person thinks. There are ways that can help prevent as much damage to our environment. Some solutions to these problems are, recycling, driving less, using more technology to reduce paper use, and using less water. There are many big things that contribute to the environment being destroyed. One of the biggest …show more content…

Humans are using so much paper; they are cutting down all of trees in forests. According to Live Science, “An estimated 18 million acres (7.3 million hectares) of forest... are lost each year” (Bradford). This is causing major deforestation. People are also cutting down forests and trees to make room for buildings and factories, which only makes it worse. Another issue is the excessive use of water. There has been an increase in the amount of water being used. There are a lot of places that are in droughts. In some areas people have been told to limit their use of water, and get in trouble if they use too much water. Some people are unaware of what they are doing. People will take an hour-long shower and waste all of that water. People will buy a water bottle and only drink out of it once and then throw the rest away. According to National Geographic, “Only about 0.3 percent of our fresh water is found in the surface water of lakes, rivers, and swamps” (“Earth’s Freshwater”). People need to be aware of the current and potential damage they are doing to the …show more content…

There are a lot of things we as humans can do to fix these problems. According to The National Geographic, “We can make better consumer, voter, and community member choices when we are informed about how we use resources” (“Earth’s Freshwater”). A way to help the environment is to not litter. Also if one sees trash on the ground, pick it up even if it is not theirs. Not only is it trash that people need to take care of, but also the waste produced by their pets. Though pets do not produce much waste that hurts the planet picking up after they use the bathroom will start to add up if everyone were to get on board with these actions. If people get together and help clean the trash off the ground it would improve the pollution. One of the ways people can help the environment is to not drive as many cars. There are other ways to get around places. People could carpool with friends to stop the use of so many cars. By using fewer cars, people would be helping the environment. This would help because of the gases that are put off by cars, thus causing less air pollution. People could use bicycles or even walk to places that are a short distance away. People could also help the environment by using less paper. Using less paper would help
