Exploring the influence and effects of play, social media and environmental pollution on children’s physical and psychology development in the present-day.

Introduction
Childhood in the present day is not simply defined as everyone under the age of 18(United Nations,1989) and our understanding of it is not fixed (Stainton,2003). It is an ever changing socially constructed life stage (Arthur et al., 2005; Cannella, 2005; Sorin & Galloway, 2005). The concept of childhood varies depending on the point of history that is being looked at and differs from each society, culture and community. No longer are children seen as mini adults “constructed as passive beings awaiting their temporal passage into the social and the rational adult l world” (Woodrow,1999|:10) as they were seen in the Medieval ages, Tudor and Victorian era. Conclusion
In conclusion “Play is the highest expression of human development in childhood, it is the free expression of what is in the soul of the child.” (Goldstein,2012 :31). Play supports all aspects of child development and enhances their motor skills providing them with real live experiences through interactions with other children and provides a healthy way of staying active. However, the present day life style including the rise of social media has led to real life experiences being taken away from children and being given virtual ones instead. While children are learning new skills to help progress in the modern world as adults they are also being denied the face to face experiences that support children physical and psychological developments depriving them of the social skills they need to form friendships and live healthily lives.
