Around the world throughout decades of time many children and adults are increasingly living with obesity. Whether it is the individual themselves or it is someone who knows a family member or friend. This concept is known as excessive weight that is higher than a “considered healthy weight for a given height which is described as overweight or obese” (Defining Adult, 2012, p.1). Essentially the central source of this health issue is broken down to be known as an energy imbalance. The energy imbalance is linked between the calories consumed and the calories expended. Obesity has been seen not only in the United States but worldwide. It has been found that according to the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) many countries are ranked in the order with the most obese people in countries. The United States is ranked eighteen, Mexico is ranked twenty-three, Russia is ranked forty-six, and Canada is ranked forty-eight (CIA, 2011, pg.1). These four are the most popular countries that are found in the top fifty rankings out of roughly two hundred documented countries. Upon research, the World Health Organization (WHO) stated “In the year of 2014 more than 1.9 billion adults, 18 years and older, were overweight. Of these over 600 million were obese” (WHO, 2015, p.1). Each year, more and more individuals are living an unhealthy life style which is leading to the life of obesity. This is drawn because there has been an “increase in intake of energy-dense food that are high in fat and a decrease of physical activity” (WHO, 2015, p.4). It is important to raise awareness for this health issue because, although it does not lead to death, there are many illnesses that are commonly caused by obesity which will be the direct cause of death. Changing eating happens is one of the major ways of losing the excessive weight that is not needed. In addition of small exercise routines can help induce and increase the way of eating healthy. The result of having a healthy diet contributes to the many of the medical illnesses that are accustomed due to obesity. It is important to lessen the number of these illnesses that one may obtain because even though obesity itself does not cause death many obese individuals live short lives because of the multiple illnesses. Lastly, when these phases take place, these individuals become an important example to everyone around them. In addition, they are able to pursue awareness of obesity.
