I chose the topic of obesity, because many Pediatricians have been blamed for the lack of intervention in children and young adults, that they are responsible to educate the young and give advice to prevent obesity and the consequences it could have on their health. As time progresses, Americans, have had an increase in the amount people who are obese in the general population. The ways to deal with this issue has had varying points of view. Treatment of obesity is often debated whether what kind of treatment is best like: medical treatment, intervention, dieting, physical activity, pharmacotherapy, and bariatric surgery. The research that has been done shows that obesity increases the risk for type two diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and even some cancers. Obesity can also be contributed by an individual’s environment such as the social norms. As a result, the argument to further preventing obesity faces great difficulty because you cannot control each individual’s distinct environment. The purpose of this source is challenge the reader on the controversial subject of how much control do we really have over the obesity epidemic and to give statistical information according to national surveys. For example, do the social norms help prevent obesity or does it encourage it. Everyone wants to prevent all the diseases that come along with obesity through medication and surgeries, but does the environment help reflect the prevention of obesity?
